Objective:Stroke is a disease which has high incidence, high recurrence rate, high morbidity and high mortality rates .Recurrent stroke has higher mortality and disability rates than the first. This study aims to explore the risk factors of stroke recurrence and supply a help in secondary prevention.Method:200 patients with recurrent stroke (160 cases of recurrent cerebral infarction, 40 cases of recurrent intracerebral hemorrhage) and 200 cases of first stroke cases (160 cases of first cerebral infarction, recurrence 40 cases of first intracerebral hemorrhage) were selected during March 2008 to October 2009. In each case, interval of the recurrent stroke and risk factors(hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia, fibrinogen, homocysteine, carotid artery plaque, family history, smoking, drinking) were recorded. Results: In recurrent cerebral infarction ,the average age of recurrent cerebral infarction was 69±9.60 years, the average recurrent interval was 3.51±2.99 years, 30.00% of patients relapsed within 1 year, 25.63 % of patients relapsed between1-3 years, 21.88% of patients relapsed between 3 -5 year ,15.00% of patients relapsed between 5-10 years, 7.50% of patients relapsed over 10 years.Compared recurrent cerebral infarction with first cerebral, poor controlled blood pressure, diabetes, high fibrinogen, high serum homocysteine, carotid artery plaque, and family history of stroke were significantly different (P≤0.05). In recurrent intracerebral hemorrhage, the average age of recurrent cerebral hemorrhage was 67.80±3.10 years, the average interval was 5.5±1.60 years,10.00% of patients relapsed within 1 year recurrence, 17.50% of patients relapsed within between 1-3 year, 27.50 % of patients relapsed within between 3-5 patients, 30.00% of patients relapsed between 5-10 years, 15.00% of patients relapsed more than 10 years. Compared recurrent cerebral hemorrhage with first intracerebral hemorrhage, poorly controlled hypertension, diabetes, male and elderly were significant differences (P<0.05). There was no different in risk factor between recurrent stroke group and first group (P>0.05).Conclusion: Most of stroke recurrence is within 5 years.Poor controlled blood pressure, diabetes, high fibrinogen, high homocysteine, carotid artery plaque, family history of stroke are the major risk factors for recurrence of cerebral infarction . Poor controlled blood pressure, diabetes, men and elderly are major risk factors for recurrent cerebral hemorrhage.
