Objective: To reveal the mobile law and characteristics of the mobile population in a port of Yunnan province, and the risk factors of HIV/AIDS infection among the crowds. Meanwhile an analysis of gender differences will be used to provide evidence for the establishment of the effective intervention measures which focus the mobile population. Methods: Towards the border mobile population in a border port of Yunnan province, the qualitative and quantitative researches are implemented by applying the convenience sampling, purposive sampling and snowball sampling, using the Behavioral Surveillance Surveys (BSS) questionnaire which is combined with the local status. Results: 1.There are many border mobile population in the dry-season and less population in the rainyseason. Mostly relying on the relatives or geographical ties, the crowds form the loose and interests-based social network. 2. Usually men engage in the occupations with relatively higher mobility such as drivers, workers, businessmen, etc; and women engage in the self-employed occupations with relatively lower mobility or unemployed status. Women show tends to lose their fixed work after mobile.3. Many people have obscure awareness about the concept of STD, it is perhaps more serious in women. The awareness ratio of the main transmission ways of AIDS is high in the groups of men and women; but there have obvious misunderstanding about the awareness ratio of the non-transmission ways.4. Most of the crowds have the positive attitude towards the AIDS patients, a certain degree of tolerance to the extramarital sex which is more obvious in the men than the women, a relatively strong negative attitude towards the drug, and the weak perception to the drug phenomenon in the mobile population. 5. There are a certain number of extra-marital sexes and multiple sexual partners' phenomenon in the men. The condom usage is not high. In accordance with a fixed sexual partner—temporary sexual partner—commercial sexual partner, condom usage was increased in the order. Conclusions: 1. The demographic characteristics of the border mobile population: The major demographic composition are the Han nationality, male, married, youth or prime, low level of education. 2. The mobile characteristics: The number of the border mobile population shows waveform changes that the number is large in the dry-season and little in the rainy-season, and the crowds move concentratedly in a short term and repeatedly. Most of them form the relatives or geographical aggregation. 3. The socio-economic characteristics: Most of the crowds turn to non-regular employment from farming. Most of women are subordinate to men in the economic and social status. 4. The border mobile population is the susceptible group of HIV/AIDS infection, as well as the high-risk group of HIV/AIDS dissemination. 5. Maybe the female has more susceptibility and vulnerability of HIV/AIDS infection than the male among the border mobile population. 6. Than other subgroups, the truck drivers and the businessmen may have more susceptibility of HIV/AIDS infection and high-risk of HIV/AIDS dissemination. 7. The feasible forms of intervention measures in the border mobile population are medical staff intervention, radio/TV, free publicity materials, etc. 8. In the intervention action to HIV/AIDS, the gender consciousness is to be strengthened in particular.
