Objective: According to the theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Chinese-western combined medicine, the research systematically probes into the pathogenesis of Rheumatoid Arthritis(RA) in active stage from theoretical, clinical and experimental aspects. Methods: We collected 73 inpatients and outpatients of RA from 2002~2005. We prescribed Qingbi decoction and small dose Leflunomide for 33 cases as the treating group. The first control group contains 20 cases, prescribed with Qingbi decoction and indripped with the plasticizers of Chinese herbal medicine. The second control group contains 20 cases, prescribed with oral Methotrexate on the state of the first control group. Treat for 2 months and inquire for 3 months to observe the treatment result. By experiment, we study the effect of Qingbi decoction and small dose Leflunomide on serum inflammatory cytokine of adjuvant arthritis rat. ResuIts:Erythrocyte sedimentation rate and C reaction protide of treat group reduce notably, paralleling with the improvement of the symptoms and signs. Conclusion:It is right that the theory of heat, dampness, congestion and toxin is the main pathogenesis of Rheumatoid Arthritis in active stage. The treatment of clearing heat and toxic, eliminating dampness, removing the obstruction in meridians, activating blood and dispersing stasis is effective.
