Objectives:To evaluate the efficiency of enteral nutrition in the post-operative patients.Method: A prospective, randomized and controlled trial was taken. Fourty patients who underwent abdominal surgery and need nutrition support for10 days were randomized into two groups:enteral Nutrition (EN) group and parenteral nutrition(PN) group. The intake was isonitrogenic and isocalorie In the two groups. Body weight, nutritions tate and lactulose/mannitol test before operation 1th and 5th and 9th day after operation and cellular immunity were analysed.Results:(1)The changes of body weight, albumin and transferring were more obvious in the EN group than those in the PN group, bu tthere was no significant difference between the two Groups . The changes of prealbumin and fibronectin in the EN group were significantly higher than those in the PN group.(2)The gut barrier function in the EN group was superior to that in the PN group during nutrition support period. (3)Levels of CD~+3,CD~+4,andCD~+4/CD~+8 activity were decreased but that of CD+8 and IgA was increased significantly in PN group after operation(p<0.05). In EN group levels of CD~+3,CD~+4,CD~+8,andCD~+4/CD~+8 activity did not changes ignificantly, but that of IgM was increased significantly in EN group after operation(p<0.05).Conclusions: Compared with PN support,EN support can efficiently ameliorate the nutrition state of the post-operative patients, and improve the gut barrier functionand increase immunity of the post-operative patients.
