Objective:To conduct nutritional risk screening on inpatients from the Department of Surgery, Branch Hospital of People’s Hospital of Laiwu City using Nutritional Risk Screening2002(NRS2002) and investigate the nutritional supporting rate of inpatients for determining the reasonableness of the nutritional support. Methods:Interrogation, measurements and laboratory tests were conducted on patients at admission. Patients met the inclusion criteria were measured on the morning of the second day after admission. Interrogation was performed on whether or not patients eat less in the past one week and weight changes in three months, the admission diagnosis was registered, and NRS2002scores were given. The score greater than or equal to3points indicated the presence of nutritional risk. The application of nutritional support during the hospital stay of two weeks or less was recorded at discharge. All patients were observed till discharge. The presence of postoperative complications was recorded based on objective diagnostic criteria.Results:In389inpatients, the total incidence rate of nutritional risk at admission was36.76%(143/389), a total of81in143patients with nutritional risk received nutritional support, among them,47received parenteral nutritional support, and34received enteral nutritional support; In246patients without nutritional risk,35patients received nutritional support. The nutritional supporting rate was14.23%. The nutritional supporting rates of patients with nutritional risk and those without nutritional risk were20.8%and9.0%, respectively. In143patients whose nutritional risk score was greater than or equal to3points,23patients showed complications (16.08%), whereas in246patients whose score was less than3,5patients presented complications (2.03%). The incidence of complications of patients with nutritional risk was higher than that of patients without nutrition risk (P<0.05).Conclusion:NRS2002is simple, effective, easy to operate, non-invasive and fast, with a good perspectiveness. It can be effectively used for the screening of the nutritional status of inpatients, being worthy to be popularized. Inpatients in our department generally have risks of malnutrition, so they need to be given nutritional risk screening.
