Objective:To investigate the correlation of CT and pathologic findings with the expression of C-erbB-2 and proliferating cell nuclear antigen(PCNA)in peripheral lung cancer。 Materials and Methods:36 cases of pathologically-proved peripheral lung cancer (22 adenocarcinoma, 14 squamous cell carcinoma) were collected from the 1st Affiliated hospital of DaLian Medical University . All the cases were examined with MSCT before operation .The lesion was examined with HRCT.The expression of C-erbB-2 and PCNA protein was estimated with immunohistochemical technique.The examination results were compared with CT appearance and pathologic findings and the data were statistically analyzed using rank sum test.The correlation between CT signs and the expressions of C-erbB-2 and PCNA protein were evaluated. RESULTS: 1.The expression of C-erbB-2 protein was higher in adenocarcinoma than that in squamous cell carcinoma .The expression of PCNA carried no relation with the type of pulmonary carcinoma (p>0.05). 2. The expression of C-erbB-2 protein showed a negative correlation with the degree of differentiation. In poorly differentiated C-erbB-2 protein expression increased significantly.The expression of PCNA protein also showed a negative correlation with the degree of differentiation. 3. The expression of C-erbB-2 and PCNA protein showed a positive correlation with the lymph node metastasis group.The expression of C-erbB-2 and PCNA protein increased significantly in lymph node metastasis group.4.The expression of C-erbB-2 and PCNA protein were related to the lession,s size and the presence of lobulation,vessel convergency .Peripheral lung cancer with lobulation,vessel convergency had higher expression of C-erbB-2 and PCNA protein than that had no these signs.And the peripheral lung cancer with diameter over 3cm had higher expression of C-erbB-2 and PCNA protein.Though it showed no relation to spiculation and vacuole,pleural indentation signs. CONCLUSIONS: 1.The expression of C-erbB-2 protein showed a certain correlation with the type of lung cancer. The expression of C-erbB-2 was higher in adenocarcinoma than that in squamous cell carcinomoa.The expression of PCNA carried no relation with the type of lung cancer.We can take C-erbB-2 protein as the labeling index of adnocarcinoma . 2.The degree of differentiation showed a negative correlation with the expression of C-erbB-2 and PCNA protein. So the examination of C-erbB-2 and PCNA protein has value for the jugement of prognosis. 3.Peripheral lung cancer with lymph node metastasis group had higher expression of C-erbB-2 and PCNA.So the expression of C-erbB-2 and PCNA protein showed a certain correlation with the metastasis potential of peripheral lung cancer. 4.Lung cancer with diameter over 3cm had higher expression of C-erbB-2 and PCNA protein.Some CT signs (lobutation,vessel convergency)of peripheral lung cancer were related to the expression of C-erbB-2 and PCNA .These CT appearance can indicate the biological behavior of peripheral lung cancer.
