| Objective:To study the correlation between CT appearance, pathology and c-erbB-2 protein expression in peripheral lung adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, and to search the value of some CT findings in evaluating the biological behavior of peripheral lung adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma.Materials and Methods: 62 cases of peripheral lung adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma confirmed by operation and pathology were examined with CT before operation. The expression of c-erbB-2 protein was assessed immunohistochemically in paraffin-embedded tumor samples with the avidin-biotin-peroxidase complex technique, and the correlation between the CT appearance and the overexpression of c-erbB-2 was analysed. Results:ã•he expression of c-erbB-2 protein was different between peripheral lung adenocarcinoma and squanous cell carcinoma. It was higher in adenocarcinoma than in squamous cell carcinoma. ㊣n poorly differentiated and lymph node metastasis group, c-erbB-2 protein expression increased significantly. ~ Peripheral lung adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma with deep lobulation, spinous process and vessel convergency had higher expression of c-erbB-2 protein, and the peripheral lung adenocarcinoma withdiameter over 3cm also had higher expression of c-erbB-2 protein. 甌he expression of c-erbB-2 was higher in lung carcinomas with obvious contrast enhancement ( >41 Hu).Conclusion:The expression of c-erbB-2 protein was correlated with histologic pattern of lung cancer. It was higher in adenocarcinoma than that in squamous cell carcinoma. The result indicated that the expression of c-erbB-2 protein could be considered an effective criterion to evaluate the degree of malignancy, metastasis potential and prognosis of peripheral lung adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. The peripheral lung adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma with tumor diameter over 3cm, deep lobulation, spinous process, vessel convergency and obvious contrast enhancemen might have higher degree of malignancy. |
