Objectives: to provide a new method for treating Urethral Syndrome (US) through investigating the effect of electroacupuncture on patients suffering from US. Methods: seventy patients suffering from US were divided into three groups randomly: group 1 treated with Western medicine, group 2 with acupuncture and group 3 with electroacupunture. The curative effects were ranked by the symptom alleviation after one course of two-week treatment. Results: Statistically, the total effective rate of group 1, 2 and 3 was 35%, 68% and 96% respectively. Therefore, the treatment with electroacupunture is the best one, and the treatment with acupuncture better than that with Western medicine. The difference was significant with P < 0.05. Conclusions: electroacupuncture is effective for treating US and it is a flexible and practical method.
