Medical science is of a character of practice. The clinical teaching step is the first step for the medical students to the career of physician, and also an important step to develop from theory style to ability style. At present the medical mode is changing from biomedicine to bio-psycho-social medicine, and it is urgent to cultivate qualified medical talents, so the teaching quality standard of higher medical education is a leading part in medical education.Nowadays, mode of clinical medical teaching in Chinese medical universities is lagged behind the changing of the medical mode and the need of the social development, there still existed shortages in the areas like the goal of cultivation, curriculum structure, curriculum resources and teaching evaluation, etc.. An effective teaching reform is urgently needed to adapt the change of medical mode and cultivate the senior medical talents who meet the need of the society in 21st century.In this study, by using the methods of literature analysis, comparative analysis, theoretical research and investigations, especially the cases in clinical medical practice, a new teaching mode -Comprehensive Ability Standard Teaching Mode(CASTM) is put forward to adjust the guideline of current teaching, establish a new laboratory teaching mode with teacher and students in first consideration, promote the students to change from memory and imitation style to thought and creativity style, so as to establish the updated clinical medical teaching mode.There are six parts in this paper:1. The guideline of comprehensive ability standard teaching mode. In this part, the complexity of pathogenic factors in 21st century, the new concept of human health, the latest development of medical science and qualification of doctors in 21st century is discussed to illustrate the trend and necessary of conducting reform in clinical medical specialty and the detailed explanation of the guideline of comprehensive ability standard teaching mode.2. Based on the analysis of the status in clinical medical major, the connotation and essential of comprehensive ability standard teaching mode is discussed.3. The teaching goal. In this paper, a comparative study is conducted on the research status, developing trend of overseas and Chinese clinical medical teaching goal, and the teaching goal of comprehensive ability standard teaching mode is brought forward.4. The basic procedure of comprehensive ability standard teaching mode. In this part, the abuse of existing teaching process is analyzed and a reform in the process of comprehensive ability standard teaching mode of clinical medical major is proposed and the basic steps is explained.5. The curriculum stricture and teaching resources. In this part, the adjustment, enrichment is discussed, and the principle, the approach and the first step of curriculum structure reform is explored, the teaching resources are re-conformed.6. The evaluation strategy. In this part, the shortages in current clinical medical curriculum evaluation are talked, the evaluation strategy is suggested and the evaluation system of the new teaching mode is established.
