Objective To evaluate the clinical results of PFM restoration and prosthodontics. Methods 57 patients with PFM crowns and bridges which had served for six to thirteen years attended the follow-up examination (98 crowns, 9 bridges). The restoration and prosthodontics in terms of aesthetics, function, adaptability and the condition of periodontium were investigated. Results Restorations from 39 patients had good performance (68%). 64 crowns were satisfied in shape, color and lustre (66%). 20 crowns were with gingival atrophy (23%). Data was analyzed statistically, compared with the control groups. Conclusion Up to now, PFM has been still the ideal prosthodontical material in aesthetics and wear resistance. The rate of gingival atrophy on restorations was much higher than that on nature teeth. Therefore, it is necessary to improve in the design, preparation, construction and material of restoration and prosthodontics.
