Due to its characteristics of continuity and consistency, the medical science is booming in 21st century. As the novel knowledge and technology broaden this science in large scale, the medical education is being confronted with great challenges brought by the changes in medical idea and model. In addition, the advance of medical science highlights its contradiction with medical education. However the present curriculum of medical education still fail to reflect the present development of medical science and the profound changes of its knowledge system. The development of modern educational theories such as the Theory of Life-long Education, the Theory of Target Education, the Theory of Creativity Education, and the Theory of Quality Education provide a theoretical support to the advance of modern education. In the reform of medical education, the core is to restructure the curriculum system. It has been proved that there exist lots of weaknesses in the traditional three-phase model of the medical education ( basic medicine teaching, clinical teaching, internship instruction). For instance, the separated courses during the three phases result in repetition in some knowledge, separation of the whole teaching, and the lack of continuity and inflexibility. The loose link between basic medicine teaching and clinical teaching makes the cognitive transfer impossible. The absence of clear-defined objective in students learning during the basic medicine phase results in low motivation in learning. The forgetting of the basic knowledge acquired in the basic medicine teaching phase fails to equip the students with sufficient theoretical knowledge in internship. Therefore the traditional three-phase model of medical education must be replaced by two-phase model, a new model which divides the teaching into pre-clinical and clinical phases. Two-phase model is a more active and is able to increase two-way infiltration between the basic and clinical knowledge acquisition in an effective way. This model also makes the basic medicine learning integrate with the clinical medicine learning. Thus confronted by the challenge brought to the medical education due to the advance of medical science, we carried out the research on the curriculum design in the pre-clinical teaching so as to intensify the cultivation of the students' basic knowledge, ability and quality as well as to strengthen the combination between the basic medical theories and clinical practiceduring training. The scope of the research subjects was focused on the clinical undergraduates of five-year training program in medical college.Part one: The theories explanation In this part, the concepts of curriculum and curriculum design were defined. The resource and inhibitor of curriculum design as well as the types of curriculum and basic principle were analyzed. The summary of the related development theories of educational psychology was made to provide the research with theoretical foundation, that is ,the theory of the curriculum and the theory of educational psychology.Part two: The analysis of the background, the present progress, the future tendency of curriculum design in pre-clinical phase for clinical undergraduates. In this part, with the bibliograghic methods, the background of the progress in the medical science and medical education was thoroughly analyzed. The present reform of pre-clinical curriculum design abroad and domestic medical college including the Medical university of China, the West China Medical University, Bethune Medical University, the Fourth Military Medical University. The tendency of curriculum design in pre-clinical phase for clinical undergraduates was predicted on the basis of the above-mentioned researches.Part three: The design of the curriculum in pre-clinical phase for clinical undergraduates. In this part,The establishment of curriculum objective in pre-clinical phase for clinical undergraduates. on the basis of the international education standard and in accordance with the requirements for the overall training o...
