ABSTRACT The staff in Shaoxing Institute of Pharmaceutical Industry (namely the Institute of Xinchang Pharmaceutical Factory attached to Zhejiang Medicine Co. Ltd.) found out that Lop hat he rum gracile Brongn. (Gramineae) showed effective pharmacological activity of antiipemic in its active part. But chemical composition in active part is unclear. In order to disclose material base in active part We took chemical constituent study on the antiipemic active part of L. gracik Brongn.. Eleven compounds were isolated from the active part of L. gracile Brongn. through the methods of solvent extraction and re-performed silica gel chromatography. Eight of them were identified by spectral analysis and comparison with standard samples and related references. These eight compounds are as following: 4-hydroxy-3,5-dimethoxybenzaldehyde (I), tricin (II), p-coumaric acid ( LU ) , 5,4 ?-dihydroxy-3 ?,5 / -dimethoxy-7- ~ -D-glucosyloxy-flavone (IV) , vitexin (V) ,thymine(VI), vanillic acid (VII), adenineOjl). The eight compounds were obtained from this genus for the first time. The pharmacological test indicated that the extract of Lophatherum gracile Brongn. possessed effective antilipemic activity. It can obviously lower the levels of serum total cholesterol and triglyceride of hyperlipidemic rats.
