The study is to explore the mechanism of improvement of the symptoms of Cervical Spondylosis (CS) treated with Ge Qi Er Bu Tang(GQEBT) through the three aspects including theory, animal experiments and clinical practice. The study of theory of TCM indicates that the primary pathogenesis of CS is lack of Qi and blood, deficiency of Yin of kidney and liver, the Qi stagnation and blood stasis. According to this pathogenesis we developed the therapeutic creed which can nourish Qi and blood, nourish the Yin of the kidney and liver, activate the blood and eliminate the blood stasis, and dredge col-lateralls and relieve the pain. Based on this therapeutic creed we elaborated the formula ?GQEBT. In clinical study, the 132 cases with CS were treated and observed system-aticly for a month. And the results show that GQEBT can effectively improve the symptoms of CS. The totally effective rate amounts to 94.4% and significantly superior to the control group ?Jing Fu Kang (p < 0.05). In terms of the pathogenesis of CS we designed the animal models and engaged in the animal experiments. The experimental results showed that GQEBT has vocal safety and many aspects including anti梚nflammatory effect and relief of pain, improvement of microcirculation and the blood viscosity, hi addition, the questions relevant to this study were discussed in the perspective of TCM and western medicine.
