Investigation Of Helminthes Infections In Digestive Tract Of Dogs From Yangzhou District And Therapeutic Trial

To understand the helminthes infections in digestive tract of dogs from Yangzhou district, Total 487 dogs were investigated. The results showed that the incidence of the infection of worms was 30.8% (150/487), and six species of worm eggs were found, which included four species of nematodes (Toxocara canis,Toxascaris leonina, Ancylostoma caninum and Capillaria) and two species of cestodes(Dipylidium caninum,and Toxocara canis). The the incidence of the infection of Toxocara canis, Ancylostoma caninum, tapeworm and Capillaria were 25.26%, 8.83%, 3.08% and 1.60%, respectively. The incidence of the infection of Toxocara canis and Ancylostoma caninum were higher than others. When the overall incidence of different feeding conditions in different dog's farms were concerned, the age, rearing method, environmental conditions and drug usage showed impact on the incidence of the worm, and provided some advice on the prevention and control of worm disease in dogs.Total 150 dogs naturally infected with nematodes (Toxocara canis, Toxascaris leonine, Ancylostoma caninum, and Capillaria) and cestodes(Dipylidium caninum and Toxocara canis)were included in a controlled therapeutic trial to test the antihelmintic efficacy of compound febantel tablet, albendazole tablet, and praziquantel tablet. The efficacy of therapy was assessed by ratio of egg reduction (%) at day 2, 3, 5, and 14 after treatment. Compound febantel tablets were highly effective against naturally infected nematodes and cestodes in dogs. A single treatment with compound febantel tablets resulted in a 100% reduction of eggs, while the efficacy of albendazole tablet and praziquantel tablet could not reach 100%.
