Dermatophytosis is a common skin infectious disease in dogs. It can be spreaded among dogs or between dog and human being. Canine demodicosis is also a widely distributed, frequently occurred common disease clinically, which sometimes could appear with dermatophytosis together in the form of a mixed infection and result in severe hurt and hard cure. Nowadays, the laboratory diagnostic skill of canine dermatophytosis is quite limited in domestic and the prevention and treatment efficiency of this disease is low. The canine demodicosis is easy to recur and the therapeutic efficiency with pharmaceuticals is also low. Therefore, it is very significant to enhance the investigation of these two kinds of diseases.A total of 10849 cases of canine dermatosis recorded from January 2003 through December 2005 by 3 licenced animal hospitals in Nanjing area were investigated and analyzed clinically in the present study. It is mainly focused on the investigation of epidemic characteristics of canine dermatophytosis and demodicosis in Nanjing area via documentation and statistical analysis of ill date, patient species, age, gender and focus site etc of dogs with these diseases. In addition, the species, quantity and endemic characteristics of dermatophyte on hair of healthy dogs were also investigated in order to understand their species, quantity and distribution regularities and provide a reference for clinical therapy. With the establishment of identified procedures of the dermatophytosis, A total of 640 hair samples were collected and cultured from 80 healthy dogs to isolate fungus on Sabourand Medium and Dermatophyte Test Medium. All hair samples were collected from eight points of each dog: forelimb, posterior limb, the lateral corner of right eye, the external canal of right ear, the dorsal of right ear base, dorsal, ventral and caudal. Potato Dextrose Agar and Grain Medium were further used to identify fungi which were not identified by the primarv culture. Fungi were all secondarily cultured on Sabourand Medium to observe the colony texture, colour, growth rate, surface status and reverse pigment. The fungi should be examined by microscope to inspect their microscopic structure from 7th day to 28th day. Finally, identification was made according to colony morphology and microscopic structure. Clinical cases caused by demodicosis disease were treated with YanSuanTeBiNaiFen and XuFuChaJi. The clinical cases caused by demodicosis disease were treated with TongMi (doramectin injection), traditional medicine JieXuanJing, or TongMi + JieXuanJing. To establish a test protocol of canine demodicidosis, 3 methods were assessed and compared, and suitable pharmaceuticals and laboratory diagnostic...
