A Study On Emotional Management And Clinical Communication Ability Of Nurses In Emergency Department

Objective To investigate the status of emotion management ability and clinic communication competency in emergency nurses and to analyze the factors of emotion management.To further explore the correlation between clinic communication competency and emotion management in emergency nurses.Methods With the convenience sampling method,182 emergency nurses were surveyed from gradeⅢ and first-class hospitals in Qingdao City from October to November 2013.The survey tools including the general questionnaire of nurses of emergency department and questionnaire of emotion management of nurses and the clinical nurse communication competency.Data were analyzed by SPSS 17.0,statistical methods including descriptive analysis,ANOVA analysis,Spearman Correlation analysis,Multiple stepwise regression analysis.Results1 Emotion management ability status of emergency nurses200 questionnaires were distributed 182 were valid questionnaires and the effective rate was 91%.The overall scores of emotion management ability in emergency department nurses is above the middle level.The overall score of emotion management ability of nurses in emergency department was(49.59±4.83), the dimension scores from high to low were emotional adjustment(14.20±1.93), emotional awareness(14.03±1.52), emotional using(13.83±1.82),and emotional expression(7.52±1.23).2 Clinic communication competency status of emergency nurses The overall scores of clinic communication competency in emergency department nurses is in the middle level.The overall score was(212.40±28.14), the dimension scores from high to low were communication competency in difficult clinic Scene(72.93±10.23),the team communication competency(22.65±3.35), basic language communication competency(40.40±5.81), basic non-language communication competency(25.60±3.84),emotional support competency(21.65±3.52), emotional perception competency(29.16±4.81),respectively.3 Influencing factor analysis of mental health of emotion management for nurses in emergency department ANOVA analysis show that different sex, age groups,educational level, marital status,employment forms were not statistically significant to the scores of emotion management ability in emergency department nurses;Among age, nursing age and professional title,were significant differences(P<0.05); Multi-variate regression analysis indicated that job burnout,emotional transfer,clinic communication competency were the influencing factors of emotion management for nurses in emergency department. Regression equations F=14.542,(P<0.05).4 Correlation analysis of emotion management and clinic communication competency Pearson correlation showed that the score of clinic communication competency were positively correlated with the score of emotion management(P<0. 05),of among that the dimension of emotional adjustment, emotional using and the overall scores of emotion management ability in emergency department nurses were respectively positively correlated with the dimensions of clinic communication competency(P<0. 01).The highest dimensions’ related coefficient of emotional expression was 0.579 and related coefficient of emotional awareness was 0.230.Conclusion The overall scores of emotion management ability in emergency department nurses is in the middle level. It is suggested that emotion management should be introduced into nursing field by nursing managers so as to improve the level of clinic communication competency and the services and qualities of clinical nursing.
