The belt conveyor is the main equipment of bulk material transportation. Thereinto, the drum is the main component of the belt conveyor. It is used to drive the operation of the belts. The structure of the drum influences reliability of operation for the belt conveyor direct. There are the parameter sequences of the drums in our country. The largest diameter of the drum in the diameter criterion is 1600 millimeter, and the highest tensile strength of the belt is 4000 Newton per millimeter. However, With the good-sized belt conveyor, the tensile strength of the belt is demanded higher and higher. In fact, there are the belts that the tensile strength is from 4500 Newton per millimeter to 6000 Newton per millimeter now. Apparently, the drum that the diameter is less than 1600 millimeter can't satisfy the demand. So, The paper is to design the drum whose diameter is more than 1600 millimeter. The content of the paper is as follows.First, the paper is to design the structure of fourteen drums. It designs the general chart of drums that the diameter is from 1700 millimeter to 2000 millimeter. It also designs components of drums, viz. cylindrical shell, axis, web, expansion bushing and shield.Second, the paper is static analysis for fourteen drums by using ANSYS. It is modeling for drums, carving up the net, defining the boundary condition, forcing, static analysis, finding and checking the maximal stress, then making the design of fourteen drums security and credibility.Next, the paper is parameter drawing for fourteen drums. It makes drums carry out the automatic drawing of general chart and component drawing by using VBA language under the AutoCAD program environment. It saves the designer's drawing time, improves the level of the drum and drawing efficiency.Finally, the paper is to optimize one of drums in fourteen drums by using ANSYS. It chooses three optimization design variables, viz. the thickness of the drum, the thickness of the plate and the radius of web's hole, and objective function for the gross mass of the drum. The drum can save material and take from cost after the optimization.
