Bridge crane is applied in all fields of country economy construction widely and the products have many series. With the development of economy construction, the customer's demand of performance to crane becomes more and more high. But at present, the design way is still rest on the two-dimensional stage, the workload is great, the course of design isn't intuitionistic and the errors in design courses can not been detected easily. With the development of three-dimensional graphics and computer technology, the three-dimensional design has become an inevitable tendency in CAD application field. At present, the application of three-demensional CAD techniques on overhead traveling crane design mainly focuses on three-dimensional solid modeling, rendering picture, and so on. But the overall three-demensional design on the whole design is still at the groping phase.To some degree, bridge crane is being tandem products, the design of bridge crane is quite standard, the main difference between the same tandem products is just parameters and substructure, the overall structure is similar. If engineer want to design different type of the same tandem products, they needn't to restart the design, what they should do is just some similarity serial design based on the basic design. The function similarity and structure similarity, also the standard parts provide the condition for doing parametric serial similar design. Through these parts modal's fast modification, they can design 3D parts model of new products and assemble.In this paper, with the study of structure feature, aloes the design flow and design method, the 3D parametric design system of bridge crane is designed based on the 3D design platform-SolidWorks and database-Access 2003, redevelopment the API function of SolidWodrks by VB6.0. This system combine the engineer's design experience and theory of metal structure design, and consider the practical requirement of enterprise, adopt the object-oriented technology and modular design technology.In this thesis, firstly, study key technology of secondary development. Secondly, build the parts model, engineering drawings and database. The third, developed the parametric design system which both mutual independent and interrelation, including main girder, traveling mechanism, hoisting mechanism. The last, illuminate how to use this system by an example.In this thesis, the three-demensional parametric CAD system is developed with a friendly user interface which is easy to use and understand. The Model in system is built automatically with interference check. Engineering drawings is updated automatically. It not only improves the design efficiency and quality, but also meets the need of the modern design technique. The techniques discussed in this thesis provides an advanced, reliable and rapid design approach for bridge crane.
