Against the backgroud of the educational globalization in the 21st century, to enhance the quality education of teenagers has become a hot topic around the world. As an important part of the campus culture, the development of school uniform well embodies the concept and current situation of a nation's education. Besides, the applicability of school uniforms has long been a focus of consumers'attention. To deeply study the functional design of school uniforms is a subject we must face now.In this study, methods such as literature reference, survey and analysis, statistical comparison and case design, etc. have been utilized to explore the psychological demand and attitude types of the elementary and middle school students as well as the uniform market in china. The current situation of the school uniforms has been described and analyzed, and the theoretical system of the functional design elements of the school uniforms has been discussed as well. Finally, the major factors and patterns of the functional design of school uniforms were summarized. Some main conclusions obtained from the study are listed as follows. The school uniform plays an important role in guiding students to establish a healthy aesthetic view on clothes. Designs of style, color, material, process and production plan, etc should embody the fundamental principle of'people-oriented', and are an important quality assurance of school uniforms. The factors and patterns of the functional design of school uniforms were comprehensively analyized and summarized in this study for the first time. The design of school uniforms should first abide by the basic principles of three elements including style, material and color. Besides, its unique features of appearance deisign and application differences in regions and ages should also be taken into consideration. The color of school uniforms should be in accordance with the specific characters of the objects to be designed. The harmony as well as comparison between colors should be considerd to make wearers look both vigorous and gracious. The style design of school uniforms should be good-looking, practical, vigorous and gracious, but avoid being fashion. However, it should keep pace with the times, noticing the development of current clothing trend. The material used for school uniforms should be healthy and comfort. Environmental-friendly materials are more prefered. The production pollution should be strictly kept under the safety standard. The structural and size design of school uniforms should be in accordance with the basic comfort of wearing and exercising for students. The design details should be emphysized to make school uniforms not only good- looking in appearance but also reasonable in processing. The design of production plan should be scientific and reasonable. And the functional design of school uniforms should be gradually improved during the production.
