The Physics Talent Education And Research Work Of National Southwest Associated University

National Southwest Associated University (NSWAU for short) consists of the Peking University, the Tsinghua University, and the Nankai University. The predecessor of the university is National Changsha Temporary University which was founded in 1937 under the order of Ministry of Education of the Republic of China. It was moved to Kunming from Changsha after Nanjing was occupied by the enemy and renamed as National Southwest Associated University. In May 1946, the university was moved north and recovered, having accomplished the wartime education mission. Though located in the isolated southwest of China, Southwest Associated University never gave up and made important achievements for developing Chinese high-level education. As the biggest physics education center in the country, in the special difficulties of wartime conditions, Department of Physics of Southwest Associated University insisted on research and teaching, trained out numerous outstanding physics talents, and changed to be a florid enchanting flower in Chinese education history. Based on the analysis of the literature data and combination with interviews, the article makes comprehensive and systematic investigations and researches for the physics talent education and research work of Southwest Associated University.The basic construction and content of the paper is divided into several parts as follows: the first is the exordium describing the research status, the significance of topic selection, and the research methods. The evolution and predecessor of Department of Physics of Southwest Associated University is investigated in the second part and the position and historical significance of the foundation of the department is explored, by tracing back its favorable tradition and style, and introduces and analyzes its situation of teaching staffs and graduates. In the third part, the paper mainly illustrates the undergraduate training pattern and characteristics of Department of physics of the Southwest Associated University. The university aims at training generalists, and performs credit system, elective course system and the combination of the academic year of teaching system at the same time, and guarantees the realization of the objects of the generalist education, which we can see from the curriculum design of the physics department. In the fourth part, the paper explains the postgraduate training plan and characteristics of the physics department, introduces the recovery backgrounds of the postgraduate education and the postgraduate training methods, and also gives a preliminary analysis for the postgraduate training characteristics of the department. In the fifth part, the paper explores the wartime research achievements of Department of Physics of Southwest Associated University and two physics institutes. These research activities promoting physics teaching which reaches a high-level standard,and some practical results of research contributing to the Anti-Japanese War. In the sixth part, the paper summarizes and analyzes the experience and enlightenment of the physics talent training of Southwest Association University.
