With the development of society and economy, the higher vocational and technical education has developed greatly, but at the same time, there are many obvious contradictions between the actual demand of national and social development and the status that higher vocational and technical school students are learning in. In the higher vocational and technical education, two issues are found. First,students have little interest in mathematics studying. Second, the higher vocational and technical education hasn't been paid enough attention to the application of mathematics. The two, which are linked each other, should be resolved in mathematics teaching of the higher vocational education now.The thesis is organized as follows: First, Mathematical modeling contest to college students and middle school students from domestic and foreign is proceeding more and more popularly.This paper which is based on this background analyzes the necessity and feasibility of mathematical modeling lesson in the five-year higher vocational and technical educationin, states the practical meaning of the topic and puts forward the relevant means. Chapter 2 is related to research which elaborated mathematical modeling. Chapter 3 covers the basic concepts, main contents, forms of organization, teaching methods and examination assessment in the mathematical modeling teaching. We also analyzes how to do mathematical modeling teaching in the five-year higher vocational and technical School. In chapter 4, We give a questionnaire and analysis in the students which were trained in mathematical modeling or are being trained. Some classical examples are enumerated and analyzed in chapter 5, which shows further the importance of mathematical modeling in the five-year higher vocational and technical School. Finally, we summarize the thesis. The conclusion shows that mathematical modeling teaching in the vocational and technical educationin will strengthen the students'interest in mathematical study, enhance the students'enthusiasm and efficiency to study mathematics, improve the quality of mathematical teaching. Mathematical modeling teaching is only an experiment in the vocational and technical school. We finally present some expectations for some practical problems to be studied further.
