Water resource is one of the most important natural resources under the development of economy and society. With the rapid development of the economic and social progress, the conflicts between the supply and demand of water resources have become more outstanding. The carrying capacity of water resources, which is an important index of regional sustainable development of population,environment and economic, have become a focus of academic field. The problems of water resources, such as drought and water shortage, floods and water logging, water environment deterioration, water erosion and soil loss, have become restraints and"bottle neck"against the sustainable development of the national economy and social progress. Main content of this paper is the carrying capacity of water resources to the development of economic and society of Changyi city under the stress of salt-water intrusion. Changyi city located on the southern bank of Laizhou bay,often suffers the invasion of storm surge and stores a lot of brine water underground at northern coast. With the development of economy in the past few years time, the overexploitation of groundwater results in the descending of the groundwater level and intrusion of the northern brine into fresh groundwater from north to south. Accordingly, the available freshwater resource and its carrying capacity have decreased.This paper analyses the influence of saltwater intrusion to the carrying capacity of water resources,and uses the fuzzy comprehensive method to appraise the carrying capacity of water resources in Changyi under the stress of salt-water intrusion. The main contents including:(1)Present research situation and influence factors of carrying capacity of water resources,and the influencing mechanism of saltwater intrusion on carrying capacity of water resources. Salt-water intrusion may influence the groundwater quantity, the improvement of people's lives and the industrial and agricultural development.(2)Appraise the carrying capacity of water resources under the influence of economical and social development. Under the conditions of economical and social development, the requirement and supply amount of water resource are forecasted. Using the fuzzy comprehensive method, we select seven indexes such as efficiency of water use, average water supply, water supply modulus, living water ration and so on, to estimate the water resources carrying capacity of Changyi.(3)The carrying capacity of water resources of Changyi city under the stress of salt-water intrusion. Based on the relationships among the degrees of saltwater intrusion, precipitation and exploitation quantity of groundwater, the different saltwater intrusion conditions (in 2000 and 2005) are the standards under which analyse the different water requirement controlling the saltwater intrusion. We bring them into the eco-environmental water demand and estimate the water resources carrying capacity at this condition.(4)The influence degree of the saltwater intrusion upon water resources carrying capacity is obtained through comparative analysis of the two evaluation results. Ways of improving water resources carrying capacity of Changyi and methods of realizing the water resources sustainable using are proposed according to specific damages.The appraisal of carrying capacity of water resources under the stress of saltwater intrusion in Changyi may offer references for reasonable use of water resources and government decision, and exploit scientific research direction of the study on the regional water resources carrying capacity influenced by disasters.
