The high vocational education, as a new educational type which rises with the educational development in our country,is the highest stage in the vocational-technical education and the important constituent of higher education. Therefore, the teaching content of high mathematics should be carried out under the principle that is "take the application as a goal, be essential is sufficient",and it should be characterize by "relating the reality, deepening the concept, paying attention to application, valuing the innovation and improving the quality". This article analyses and researches the teaching of high mathematics from the aspect of the states of student sources, teaching material and eaching methods in Lanzhou petrolchemical College. It brings out some new ideas to solve the problem of high mathematics teaching in the high vocational education. Teachers Should put the emphasis on how to cultivate the mathematics practicing ability of students, with the aim of solving actual problems, taking the usability and pertinence as starting point. In the teaching methods, the forming of mathematical model can realize the stresses in analizing problems. Teachers can cultivate and computers as the tools to solve actual problems by leting them to master the software package "Mathematica". In this way, studends can be set free from the complex and numerous operation process.In order to get better results, the high mathematic teaching in high vocational education should be guided by the principle of "essential and sufficient",and teachers need to desalination the systematic.characteristic and hermeticness and strengthen the practial steps. And teachers should use some modern teaching methods to carry out layer stratified teaching and reform the way of exercise and exams according to different students.
