Study on city land-use landscape pattern is one of the most popular subjects and the most important aspect in Geography and Ecology. Based on the recent situation and planning of Taiyuan city land-use landscape pattern, by using GIS software and Landscape Ecological theory and several index, such as landscape heterogeneity index, landscape pattern index, etc., this paper explores the process, principle and method of patterning and optimizing Taiyuan city land-use landscape. The paper mainly includes three parts as follow:1. Describing the recent introduction, progress and obtained results of land-use landscape pattern analysis.2. Describing the index used in Landscape Ecological and Geographic fractal dimension based on quantities analysis; by using GIS and establishing Taiyuan city land-use database, calculating the index such as landscape pattern, borderline fractal dimension, Shannon-Wiener index, habitatfragmentation index and so on; Analyzing Taiyuan city land-use landscape in dependence of landscape ecology, geography and sustainable development theory.3. Based on the data obtained through GIS, analyzing and summarizing the rationality of Taiyuan city land-use landscape, and then proposing some theories, methods and measurements to explain the problem existed in land-use landscape and the optimize of land-use landscape pattern.Four conclusions are put forward as follow:. 1. Distribution of Taiyuan city land-use landscape patches is not balanced. The number of small patches is much more than the large patches and the medium-size patches.2. Land-use types of Taiyuan city are rich and varied, but the landscape diversity is much poor, in which the plowland and not-used land(bad-used land) dominate the region; The land-use landscape is relatively intact, and there are not obvious fragmentation in the whole region, but the...
