| The study of landscape pattern goes throughout the developing history of landscape ecology. And it is also one of the focuses about the landscape pattern's study. Comparing the characteristics of different landscape patches and their changes and so on, the analysis of landscape pattern is a research on the features of the composition and structure of landscape, which provides the basis for the rational management of landscape. Becase city is a natural - social - economic ecosystem and human oriented, human activities have a profound impact on the urban landscape.With the fast process of the urbanization and the rapid development of the economy, it is more outstanding that the urban problem accordingly, such as intensive residential buildings, urban transportation, urban environmental pollution problems and so on. These are mainly due to unreasonable municipal layout. Therefore, the studies of the urban landscape pattern have a crucial role for reasonable planning and managing land and improving the urban ecological environment.This paper choosed the data of Lanzhou city's land-use database as the research area. At first, the landscape type map of Lanzhou city was generated with the support of GIS technology from the view of basic theories of landscape ecology. Secondly, the landscape pattern of Lanzhou city was analyzed, using the landscape indices which were selected. Then with the compared study of the landscape pattern of four districts of Lanzhou city, the spatial characteristics and difference of four regions'landscape patterns were analyzed and understanded. Thirdly, the problems of the landscape pattern were made a conclusion. Finally, optimal strategies were proposed for the landscape pattern of Lanzhou city. The main conclusions of paper are as follows:1,In the research of the whole landscape pattern of Lanzhou city, the study obtained that residential landscape and industrial landscape centralized, which affected the natural ecological processes, and commercial landscape had a high degree of landscape fragmentation and its distribution was scattered. Furthermore, there was a significant difference for the landscape between the different landscape types; except for road landscape, there were differences in degree of divided edge of the others, but not obviously.2,From the four regional landscapes that Lanzhou city was divided into, in Chengguan district, the main landscapes includes residential landscape, public landsc- ape and commercial landscape, and Chengguan district played a leading role in the whole landscape of Lanzhou city; in Xigu district, industrial landscape centralized obviously, and had the lowest degree of landscape fragmentation; in Qilihe district, the main landscapes was road landscape, and its single plaque area compared with the most obvious advantage; in An'ning district, the main landscapes were garden landscape and public landscape, its plaques were distributed widely and its landscape fragmentation's and its divided edge's degrees both were higher, so its connectivity was poor.3,The analysis of Lanzhou city's landscape heterogeneity: looked from the whole landscape of Lanzhou city, it was largest in all that the landscape diversity of forest landscape, it meaned that, this landscape held stable relatively; the landscape that had the larger dominance were industrial landscape and garden landscape, and they had a great impact on urban landscape and urban landscape system. Then looked from the four regional landscapes, their diversity and evenness were both low, indicating that the large difference between the proportion of each landscape types. These landscape types were allocated unevenly. Thence there was a phenomenon that some type of landscape controled the whole one.4,In Lanzhou city, there existed several issues of landscape pattern: the density of residential land-use plaque was high, and there were serious security risks in the city; roads were crowded between east and west, mixing traffic and interfering with each other; industry made pollution to the environment badly, particularly, air pollution; the city was lack of green plaques, and its layout lost balance.5,For the landscape pattern of Lanzhou city, responses of optimization: to improve the urban landscape pattern in the basin and develop new urban areas out of basin; to modernize the traffic management and make a three-dimensional traffic-buil- ding; to develop three-dimensional green for improving the ecological environment; to reserve orchard, protect the wetland and construct of characteristic ecological city.
