| The digital economy constitutes a significant economic form that succeeds the agricultural and industrial economies. It represents a novel economic form that centers on data resources,is propelled by modern information networks, and leverages information and communication technology to catalyze full-factor digital transformation. In recent years,China’s digital economy has expanded in scale and scope, leading to a revolutionary change in production methods and employment models, and has become a key driving force behind China’s economic development. The role of the digital economy in promoting employment has gained widespread attention during this vigorous development.Employment is crucial for ensuring common prosperity and improving livelihoods, and the Chinese government has prioritized employment issues and continuously improved active employment policies to address them.Nevertheless,China’s employment issues still face significant challenges due to long-term structural contradictions and the impact of various unexpected factors in the short term.Examining the employment effects of digital economy development can facilitate overall employment stability and steady improvement in employment quality, thereby offering new insights into promoting common prosperity, cultivating new economic development drivers, and promoting high-quality economic and social development. This has significant theoretical and practical implications. The research methodology employed in this article comprises several steps.Firstly,a comprehensive literature review and theoretical analysis are conducted to elucidate the macro, meso, and micro-level characteristics of the digital economy.meanwhile, relevant employment theories from Marxist political economy and Western economics are integrated, allowing for a thorough examination of the impact of the digital economy on employment scale, structure, and quality.secondly, through text analysis and data measurement, the evolution of China’s digital economy and employment market is outlined, and current trends and characteristics are explored.thirdly, using both provincial panel data and micro survey data, empirical investigations are conducted at macro and micro levels to analyze the employment effects of the digital economy, utilizing a range of statistical methods, including fixed-effects models, quantile regression models,two-stage least squares models, panel threshold models, and ordered probability models. Finally, the article concludes with a summary of key findings and policy recommendations.Based on this research methodology, the article’s specific research framework is as follows:Chapter 1 is the introduction part, which mainly introduces the background, theoretical significance, and practical significance of this study. It also explains the research methods, research ideas, research content, and innovation points.Chapter 2 is the theoretical foundation and literature review. In the theoretical foundation part, this article focuses on the theoretical exposition of the employment effects of the digital economy from the following two aspects:(1)the theoretical role and characteristics of the digital economy in macroeconomic growth theory, mesoindustrial organization theory, and micro-market subject theory;(2)classical theoretical exposition of employment in Marxist political economy and Western economics. In the literature review part, based on the relationship between the digital economy and employment,it mainly focuses on the following three aspects:(1)the impact of the digital economy on employment scale, which mainly involves theoretical and empirical research on the "creation effect" and "destruction effect" of the digital economy on employment;(2)the impact of the digital economy on employment structure, which mainly involves the impact of industry structure, skill structure and gender structure;(3)the impact of the digital economy on employment quality, which mainly involves the impact of the digital economy on employment quality and job satisfaction.Chapter 3 analyzes the development process and current situation of the digital economy and employment.Firstly, the development process of the digital economy is reviewed, and indicators are measured to analyze the temporal characteristics and regional differences of the digital economy.Secondly, indicators are measured to analyze the scale, structure, and quality of employment in China, and the temporal characteristics and regional differences of the Chinese employment market are analyzed. Finally, the new employment characteristics under the digital economy are examined and analyzed, and the new features and changes in employment under the digital economy are summarized.Chapter 4 presents an empirical study on the impact of the digital economy on employment scale.Using panel data at the provincial level in China and data from the Chinese Labor Dynamics Survey(CLDS),this chapter examines the overall impact effects,sub-item impact effects, dynamic characteristics, mechanism of action, regional heterogeneity, group heterogeneity, and threshold effects of the digital economy on both the employment scale and individual employment probability.Chapter 5 presents an empirical study on the impact of the digital economy on employment structure.Using panel data at the provincial level in China and data from the Chinese Labor Dynamics Survey(CLDS),this chapter examines the overall impact effects,sub-item impact effects, dynamic characteristics, mechanism of action, regional and group heterogeneity, and threshold effects of the digital economy on the industrial structure, sectoral structure, skill structure, and gender structure of employment.Chapter 6 presents an empirical study on the impact of the digital economy on employment quality.Using panel data at the provincial level in China and data from the Chinese Labor Dynamics Survey(CLDS),this chapter examines the overall impact effects,sub-item impact effects, dynamic characteristics, mechanism of action, regional heterogeneity, group heterogeneity, and threshold effects of the digital economy on employment quality and job satisfaction. The seventh chapter is the research conclusion and related countermeasures and suggestions. |
