Research On The Employment Effect Of China’s Digital Economy Development

In recent years,with the continuous innovation and development of information technologies such as the Internet and artificial intelligence,digital economy has become the theme of the new era.The employment problem in the context of the digital economy has received attention from all walks of life.At present,most discussions on the relationship between digital economy and employment mainly focuses on the macro data at the provincial level.There are few studies that combine the macro data with the micro individual data,and scholars mostly analyze the employment effects of digital economy from the total volume dimension.In contrast,this paper systematically assesses the impact of China’s digital economy development on employment and its mechanism from a multi-dimensional perspective of total volume,structure and quality,incorporating the comprehensive development level of the digital economy into the framework of individual decision-making analysis of workers at the micro level.Through empirical research,this paper finds that the digital economy has a multidimensional impact on employment.Firstly,in the dimension of total employment,the development of digital economy significantly increases the employment participation rate of workers,indicating that the employment creation effect of digital economy is greater than the employment destruction effect.Secondly,in the dimension of completion structure,the digital economy enables workers to transfer from agricultural employment to non-agricultural employment,and realizes the optimization of employment structure through the adjustment of industrial structure.At the same time,it also affects the employment form of workers,which is manifested as the increase of employment probability.Thirdly,in the dimension of employment quality,the study has found that the digital economy significantly improves the contract signing rate and hourly wage income,but has no significant impact on job satisfaction.Overall,it improves the employment quality of workers mainly characterized by salary and welfare.Fourthly,the impact of digital economy on employment is heterogeneous.It has obvious effects on employment participation,optimization of employment structure and improvement of employment quality in the eastern region.However,the impact is weaker in the central and western regions where digital economy infrastructure is weak and talent is relatively scarce,and low-income groups profit less from the development of the digital economy than high-income groups.In addition,the mediating effect results show that the digital economy mainly promotes the employment participation of workers by improving the use of the Internet and developing digital finance,and improves the quality of employment through the upgrading of the industrial structure of employment.Based on the results of the empirical study,this paper puts forward the following targeted recommendations.First,we should continue to improve the construction of digital infrastructure and narrow the regional digital divide.The second is to build a digital talent training system to support the development of the digital economy.Third,we should improve the social security system to enhance job satisfaction.The fourth is to develop digital inclusive finance to smooth the transmission path.Fifth,we must seize the opportunities for the development of the digital economy and enhance our comprehensive capabilities.
