Family archives are the various forms of historical records that families and their members produce in daily life and social activities. They are not only credentials and references, but also media for constructing family memories. The latter value or function, for families and individuals,is usually at the first place.Preservation is in the nature of human beings, and recording is the necessary means of cultural inheritance and memory retention. It has a long history of formation and preservations for family archives at home and abroad.Archival memory theory promotes the transformation of archival research paradigm and the reform of archival work concept.Since the 1980 s,research on family archives has been rising, which has always been an important content in the field of private archives research. However, the existing researches on family archives and memory focus on the management by archive institutions.Although discussions on the nature and value of family archives and the countermeasures of archive institutions can explain the particularity of family archives, the connection between family archival memory construction and society at a certain level,it is still necessary to answer positively and conduct in-depth research.Combining with the specific historical experience and characteristics of the times, the analysis of China's family archival memory can not only make up for the deficiencies of the existing researches but also provide a guidance for the current and future family archival memory resource construction. Therefore,it is necessary to carry out this research.Overall, the research perspective of this paper is urban-rural changes.Urban and rural areas provide the field for individuals and families to grow and live. The changes include both urban development and rural construction, which means the urban and rural boundary that is always changing and also implies the evolution of the relationship between them.Urban-rural changes run through the history of human civilization, from urban-rural symbiosis, gradually to urban-rural differentiation, and finally to urbanrural integration. At present,China is in the process of the third period. This paper takes China's urban-rural changes as a clue.It not only attaches importance to the summary of historical trends, but also pays attention to the analysis of the current social structure. This paper analyzes the changes of the subject and media in family archival memory construction, discusses the facts and characteristics of family archival memory construction in different periods from the aspects of archives formation and management, and proposes strategies for the construction of family archival memory resources based on national conditions and the trend of the times. In the research,an interdisciplinary theoretical method is adopted to make up for the deficiency of merely relying on only one theoretical method to study the archival phenomenon. In chapter 1 and 7,the paper respectively proposes the research ideas, summarizes and makes a prospect for the research.Apart from these two chapter, the main chapters are divided into three parts.Firstly, chapter 2 is a theoretical study on the relationship between family archival memory and urban-rural changes. This part defines the core concepts involved in this paper. Then, based on social memory theory, constructivism theory and field theory, the memory attributes of family archives and the construction characteristics of family memories,as well as the interaction process and construction path between archives and memory are clarified through semi-structured interview and unstructured observation.Family archival memory construction means that families and individuals record family life and social practice through archives formation, management and usage. At the same time,it is also an activity of memory preservation, inheritance and reproduction, which can be divided into two phases. Then, the paper analyzes the effect of urban-rural changes and urban-rural relationship evolution on the family archival memory construction. As social fields, they affect the memory construction subject and medium, while the different distribution and service of public institutions in urban and rural areas directly influence the memory construction behavior.Secondly, chapters 3,4 and 5 constitute the historical study of family archival memory construction from the perspective of urban-rural changes in China.Under guidance of the analysis framework in chapter 2,this part combines literature research, network survey, questionnaire survey and other methods to sort out the facts and characteristics of family archival memory construction in the three periods of urbanrural symbiosis,urban-rural differentiation and urban-rural integration.Among them, chapter 3 is a study on the traditional family archival memory construction in the period of urban-rural symbiosis in China. It first analyzes the traditional urban-rural society in China and the families in this society, and then reveals the practice of family archival memory construction from the historical facts, rules and motivations of genealogy compilation and management. On this basis,it makes an analysis of the impact of traditional agricultural society and agricultural cavitation.Following the previous chapter, chapter 4 analyzes the development and transformation of family archival memory construction in the period of urban-rural differentiation in China.Since modern times, the rapid progress of urbanization has led to the urban and rural areas gradual divided, tearing apart the original state of urbanrural symbiosis in economic, cultural and social aspects. This chapter studies the urban and rural social changes and their influences on the subject(family)of memory construction. Then,it reveals the modern development of genealogy compilation and management, the generation and practice of the professional concept of family archives, and the involvement of modern archival research and work. This chapter sums up the traditional and modern characteristics of family archival memory construction in this period.Chapter 5 is a study on the family archival memory construction in the process of urban-rural integration in China. At the end of the last century,China began to promote the integrated development of urban and rural areas. This chapter firstly analyses the contemporary urban-rural society and families. Then through the network survey and questionnaire survey, this paper studies the family archives work carried out by public institutions such as archives, libraries and museums, and the formation and management of archives in urban and rural families. Then this chapter summarizes the characteristics and trends of the contemporary family archival memory construction and analyzes the existing problems and their historical and realistic causes. Finally, throughout the history, family archival memory construction has changed from a state-involved behavior to a spontaneous family activity, and gradually became an organized social behavior, during which the cultural and social value have become more and more prominent. In the process of urban-rural integration, although family archives and memories have been consciously constructed as a kind of resource, there are still some deficiencies. Therefore, with chapter 6 as the main body, this paper discusses the resource-based family archival memory construction oriented to urbanrural integration.Combined with related theories and historical experiences, this paper clarifies the interactive relationship between family archival memory and social memory resources, discusses the formation and structure of archival memory construction subjects, puts forward the construction objective principles in accordance with the trend of the times, and analyzes the key strategies of memory construction.
