The history of Shanghai deserves our respect for its brilliance. There are many works produced in ancient Shanghai proved to be quite important and contributive to the Chinese civilization. However, researches in this field were once scarcely seen. This thesis adopts the method of philology to research these works of Shanghai in history before Yuan and earlier dynasties.This thesis is composed by Preface, First Part, Second Part, Appendixes and Reference. On the basis of the deep researches towards local documents of Shanghai and different kinds of categories and summary works, meanwhile depend on the related research results, this thesis investigates the Shanghai authors, including the migrated writers and official governors, and their works in Yuan and earlier dynasties. According to the research, about 320 works written by 129 authors in this period are found. In the first part, a large proportion of rare editions of these works have been annotated for their appearance, the statement of these editions, their primary coverage, the life of these authors, and the collection information. In the second part, all of the works which are in existence now have been recorded about their editions and collection information. Therefore, a few errors of some past categories have got corrected. And for every author of these works, there have been planned to be simple biographies for them according to some other classical documents. The appendixes contain the table of information by the works which have lost in present, including their names, authors and the provenance. Finally, the thesis summarizes three significant features through the development of these works.
