In recent years, the promotion of the broadband services, such as video phone, IPTV and video on demand, stimulates the development of global demand for broadband access. At the same time, network convergence has become the inevitable trend of the telecommunications industry. Because of its high bandwidth and low cost, EPON becomes one of the best options for wired access. Because of its convenience of deployment and access, comparatively high bandwidth to other wireless access, WiMAX becomes one of the best options for wireless access. EPON and WiMAX convergence access network can integrate the advantages of the two networks, so it becomes one of the research focuses in broadband access field. With the deployment of broadband access network expansion, efficient planning with low network construction investment is of great significance. Artificial planning in a large network is difficult, so the network planning algorithm research and tools developing have important practical significance. At present, the PON network planning study mainly considers single PON, and network planning for both PON and WiMAX convergence access network is little. Because of complicated management mechanism and convergence network-specific QoS assurance and dynamics services, effective management of this covergence network is a new research topic. To solve these problems, this thesis researches the key technologies of the PON network planning, PON and WiMAX convergence access network planning, PON and WiMAX convergence access network management, designs and implements the network management software of EPON and WiMAX convergence access network, validate the correlation algorithm. The main contributions of this thesis are as follows.1) At present, the PON network planning study mainly considers single PON. This thesis study the multiple PONs network planning in large quantity of user access requirement, proposes a multiple hierarchies PON network planning algorithm based on multiply hierarchies cluster and minimum fiber route. This algorithm can calculate the premium splitter hierarchies, multiple PONs divisions, and fiber route based on city block constaints. Simulation results show that in the large network with regional constraints, the proposed algorithm can reduce the deployment cost of PON network greatly.2) Approach based on mixed integer planning model is proposed to plan the PON and WiMAX convergence access network. This approach considers the user coverage ratio, convergence ONU coverage radius, ONU optional location, carrier to noisy ratio, channel allocation and bandwidth constraint, find the best combination of these variable to achieve the optimal planning. Simulation results show that this algorithm can reduce about 20% cost of the greedy algorithm. On the condition of frequency consideration, applying this algorithm with premium frequency usage can achieve the the minimum overall deployment cost.3) Multiply level constraints bandwidth allocation algorithm based on multi-granularity parameters management is proposed for the QoS and bandwidth management of EPON and WiMAX convergence access network of WiMAX MAC layer baseband pulling away solution, which can not only manage wired access services in the PON link and wireless access in the wireless link, but also manage wired access and wireless access services in the PON link uniformly. This algorithm has been implemented in the network management software of EPON and WiMAX convergence access network prototype system, and it can manage the QoS and bandwidth management of this convergence access network effectively.4) The device diversity and the complexity of the EPON and WiMAX convergence access network cause maintenance, monitoring and fault positioning more difficult, so equipment testing is more important. Consistency testing algorithm based on simplified finite state machine is proposed for EPON multi-point control protocol which is an important protocol of the system. This algorithm establishs a simplified finite state machine model for OLT and ONU, and compare state machine calculated by captured packets and state machine of IEEE802.3ah standard to test the protocol consistency passively. This protocol consistency testing algorithm has been implemented and verified, which can detect the multi-point control protocol implement inconsistency with IEEE802.3ah, and give preliminary analysis of the inconsistent reasons.
