Connectionless networks such as IP network and Ethernet areplaying more and more important roles in telecommunication fields.Connectionless networks will act as essential carrier and transport layersin the next generation networks. The management of connectionlessnetworks is the important means to ensure the proper operation ofconnectionless networks, and it performs supporting functions absolutelynecessary. The management abstraction of technical and servicecharacteristics of connectionless network as well as carrier classmanagement are issues awaiting solutions in the management ofconnectionless networks.Network management activities are carried out according to themanagement information model, and network information modeling isalways the kernel content of network management research. Therefore,the dissertation focuses on the network information modeling ofconnectionless networks. The key points associated with modelingmethods, information model, as well as application of connectionlessnetwork information model are involved in this desertion. And the maincontents and contributions can be summarized as the following:1) The network resource modeling methods.The principles of network resource modeling are proposed. Then,the characteristics of connectionless networks as well as the concept of"flow" are introduced and analyzed, and the management abstractionfrom functional architecture components to managed resources is dwelton.2) The generic network resource model of connectionless network.The generic resource model of connectionless networks is definedaccording to the modeling principles, management abstraction, and description tools proposed previously. Corresponding to the different phases of the modeling, the resource model consists of conception model, detailed information model, and detailed data model.3 ) Network management mechanisms and its modeling methods.Firstly, the network management mechanisms of connectionless networks are introduced briefly. Then, the research focus is put on the improvement of modeling methods of management mechanisms. The concept of network management service covers the functional view provided by TMN and the process view provided by eTOM, which enhances the description ability of network management mechanisms in aspects of overall business process, process flow, as well as flexibility and extensibility. Thus, network management service is used to model management mechanisms. The modeling methods comprise description elements and tools, as well as the modeling process.4) Combined view NMS-EMS information model of Ethernet.The layered structure of Ethernet and the logical partitioning of Ethernet layer network are discussed. The service and network view information model is defined based on the generic model on both connected-oriented and connectionless. And network element view information model involves the modeling of bridge functional entities. At last, this multi-view model is applied in EPON network management. In the application in EPON Management, the association mechanisms between different views are discussed, and the modeling methods and the information model of connectionless networks are applied and manifested. The information model covering connectionless networks, Ethernet and EPON has also been accepted as ITU-T Recommendation Q.838.1....
