Next Generation Network (NGN) is an open and integrated network able to provide services including voice, data and multimedia telecommunication services. With the goal to explore issues surrounding telecommunication network open and Intelligent Network (IN) evolved online, the main work of this dissertation made deep and systematic research on Heterogeneous Network Middleware (HNM), not only doing research on the theory of it, but also studying the implementation technology of HNM on the basis of IN platform. Firstly the theory framework of HNM is established, combined with technical standardization background of OSA/Parlay APIs, the architecture of HNM is described fully and clearly by the platform independent MDA method. Then it is analyzed and explained in details that the principle and procedure of how to construct HNM based on IN platform. Furthermore an enhancement IN functional model is proposed on the foundation of Smallest Change Policy (SCP) in order to satisfy the new requirements of functional and performance aspects of HNM. Finally, this thesis proposes a solution of introducing reflective characteristic to HNM through the IN service way to meet challenges of open and dynamic environment of applications. The main contributions are as follows:1. Established a theory framework of HNMFrom the perspective of operators, middleware experience has indicated that it was necessary to introduce HNM, which is therefore to conceal heterogeneity of various networks and to build abstract APIs on top of the network to ease the tasks of application developers, between Application layer and Network layer. As a result, it shows application developers of HNM a concrete and understandable unified model.2. Described a comprehensive view of HNM architectureFrom global view point, the architecture of HNM is described using MDA concept model with the aid of enhanced "4+1" view model.
