The statistic in product design shows that more than 90% of the total product design can reuse previous design knowledge. At the same time to survive in today's era of global competition, a firm should design product rapidly. All of those means that the ability to manage the design knowledge well has being a key factor for a firm to attain and sustain a competitive advantage.Supported by National Key Technologies R&D Program and National 863 Projects and applied in the construct machinery product design and the food packing machinery product design, relevant theories, key technologies and applications of design knowledge management are systematically studied to support the rapid product design. The main research contents and achievements are as follows:1. To the connotative meaning of the design knowledge management, the basic knowledge management theory is studied firstly. Then a framework of design knowledge management technologies is proposed, which consists of four layers: the layer of platform, the layer of knowledge management (in a narrow sense), the layer of management tools and the layer of applications.2. An ontology-based product design knowledge modeling technology is studied to overcome the shortcoming of the current product design knowledge modeling methods.In the research work, a Fuzzy Description Logics based on fuzzy sets, a general-purpose product model for product design knowledge management, a formalized design knowledge representation method based on the mapping between function and structure, a design knowledge representation model and a design knowledge ontology modeling life-cycle model are proposed and also implemented in practice.3. To overcome the shortcoming of the traditional knowledge retrieval methods, a knowledge-guide multi-views retrieval model and the corresponding algorithm are proposed. The knowledge retrieval framework base on that is introduced. Then a design-scene based retrieval method and a subspace-based case retrieval method which integrated the advantage of the similitude-cosine-function-based case class approach and the fuzzy-similitude based case retrieval approach are proposed. The personal knowledge retrieval or push method is studied. Finally the knowledge retrieval efficiency is improved by using those retrieval strategies in design knowledge management.4.
