Research On The Coverage On Islamic Countries By Chinese Mainland Media(2001-2015)

This paper focuses on the reports toward Islamic Cooperation Organization(57 member countries) made by mainland China media since the "911 event" from theory of journalism and communication etc.By using the theories like news frame, agenda setting and development communication, this paper professionally paraphrases those reports, and also points out the advantages and disadvantages of them,including some underlying problems.From reportors and the front control aspect, comprehensive care should be paid for internal and external reporting policy and islamic taboo;except the journalistic professional ethics and journalistic professional requirements,Chinese media should reflect the core interests of China and the islamic world as well as shared concerns accurately; and countrol the source and hotspot in macroscopic aspect,and make expression control and block harmful information in microscopic aspect.The experience from foreign-related reports can lead the practice in foreign reports, both of which can achieve a better effect.Unlike foreign-related reporting standards, the official media value more on aspects like conflicts and abnormality;the muslim non-government media value more on importance and proximity.Text expression should be coordinated both domesticlly and internationallly, and we should further avoid western expression, treat translation articles seriously, attaches great importance to the use of direct quotes, and adhere to the independent reporting.Reports should avoid mixture of cross religious vocabularies; naming and rewriting news titles should be loyal to the reality to aviod misleading the audience.When using the photos of casualties, commercial websites should do some technology modification, and should express their religious humanistic care, taking the audience feeling into account.Compared with the western media, Chinese media kept a more neutral stance; however, on some hot issues, they tried to build” call and response relationship “with western media according to certain fact consciously or unconsciously.In the face of strong western media, "flock effect" can be saw in the media coverage of the Iraq war, which leads to "collapse" report deviation many times.Related reports by using 5 types(exchange type, setter type, round type, concealment type and multiple source type) to get news from foreign media. But in general, there is a dependency on foreign media.Problems like language, visa, staff, shifting and dispersivity of the journalists from official media, together influence the level of China’s reporting towards Islamic countries.Six groups(ordinary people, college students, Muslim intellectuals, non Muslim intellectuals, general media staff as well as students from Islamic countries who now studing in China) are generally accepted that religion is of great importance to reporting and understanding the relevant reports, hoping there will be more independent reports in the future.The " non closed loop" and "non convection" situations are appeared during the flow of the information, "the silence spiral" phenomenon generally exists, but the use of new media has brought a new situation.It is not easy to alleviate discourse fatigue, cultural separation, translation misreading and propaganda phobia, etc,due to the difficulty of effect determination.Opinion from nongovernmental and official side are often not the same.To improve the whole discourse power of our country,we should strengthen the public opinion field coordinate and effectively integrate existing review power.Opinion leaders use social media more and more to show their views,so more attention should be paid to construct a joint platform to ensure opinion leaders express their opinion smoothly,timely and accuratly,and more international.“One Belt and One Road” strategy provides a good opportunity to improve the related reports, and the Chinese Government Policy Document for Arab Countries further guide the direction of media’s reporting.Islam countries is one of the critical position for China to enhance the foreign discourse power, so China should analysis more on the advantages and disadvantages of the existing reports,creating new ways to report, increasing the intensity of coverage,and finally promote communication effect.
