With the speed of product and service updates and iterations becoming faster and faster,the innovation competition among enterprises is becoming more and more fierce.Organizations often choose to ensure that employees can participate in innovation activities through culture,system,and technology design,to continuously improve the competitive advantage of enterprises.At the individual level,employees,often driven by internal achievement motivation and external motivation factors,invest intellectual resources,physiological resources,psychological resources,and social resources into the innovation process.However,due to the development of digital technology and intelligent products,office employees complete heavy work tasks by using computers,attending meetings,making reports,reading,and making phone calls.They are often in a “sedentary” working state and lack moderate health exercise,which will not only reduce the physical quality of employees but also harm their mental process and behavior.Embodied cognition theory holds that the body,as the carrier of cognition,can regulate individual cognition,act on individual thinking,judgment,emotion,motivation,and other mental processes,and then have an impact on individual behavior.This theory provides a new perspective for exploring the antecedent factors of employee innovation behavior and provides a theoretical basis for exploring the mechanism of the impact of workplace exercise on employee innovation behavior.According to embodied cognition theory,the body state will have a direct impact on the individual’s thinking and cognition.The physical flexibility related to the body movement system activates its thinking flexibility,and the physical vitality often brings the individual’s emotional vitality and cognitive vitality.Workplace exercise can improve the physical state of “sedentary” employees,activate the active state of their sensory and motor systems,thereby increasing cognitive activity,improving emotions,stimulating creativity,helping individuals make better decisions,and promoting the occurrence of innovative behaviors.Existing studies have shown that workplace exercise can effectively improve the health level,vitality state,and innovative thinking of “sedentary” office employees.However,most of the previous studies were divorced from the work environment and paid little attention to the in-depth exploration of the relationship between workplace exercise and the innovative behavior of employees in the organizational context.Relevant studies have shown that moderate physical exercise can activate employees’ physical,mental,and cognitive resources,but there is still a lack of complete theoretical evidence and data test to answer the question “whether workplace exercise can affect employee innovation behavior”.Since most adults spend half of their waking hours in the workplace,the workplace offers a unique opportunity for employees to engage in physical activity and movement,and the workplace health promotion policies of companies can have an impact on employee psychological and behavioral processes.Therefore,on the basis of literature research,this study supplements the “story” materials of the relationship between variables through exploratory interview research,builds a theoretical model of workplace exercise and employee innovation behavior,and designs a longitudinal field quasi-experimental research project to explore the internal mechanism of workplace exercise affecting employee innovation behavior.To examine the mediating effect of vigor and creativity on the relationship between workplace exercise and employee innovation behavior.On this basis,this study adopted the field survey method to collect employee data to verify the mediating mechanism of workplace exercise on employee innovation behavior and the moderating effect of workplace health promotion.From the perspective of embodied cognition,this study constructed a theoretical framework for analyzing the influencing factors of employee innovation behavior,and gradually answered the questions of “whether”,“how” and “when” workplace exercise affected the innovative behavior of “sedentary” employees by designing a variety of research methods.Focusing on the interdisciplinary integration of biology,neurophysiology,psychology,sports science,and other disciplines,this study provides a new analytical perspective for the exploration of antecedent variables of innovative behavior,verifies that workplace exercise is an important factor affecting employee innovation behavior,and enhances the application value of embodied cognition theory in the field of management.The results show that workplace exercise has a significant positive predictive effect on employee innovation behavior,vigor and creativity play a mediating role between workplace exercise and employee innovation behavior,and workplace health promotion has a situational moderating effect on the process of workplace exercise affecting employee innovation behavior.Therefore,relevant government departments should supplement the formulation of workplace health promotion policies in line with our national conditions,and promote the implementation of national fitness plan at the enterprise level.Enterprises should take the initiative to implement workplace health promotion plans,encourage office employees to participate in workplace exercise reasonably,break the shackles of “sedentary”,activate the vigor and creativity of employees,stimulate their innovation behavior,and improv the innovation performance of enterprises.
