Professional population is the main force in the social-economic development. Their health status is of great importance to human survival and development, social harmony and stability. In particular, during the critical period to enhance our country's comprehensive national strength, "to protect the workforce is to protect the competitiveness", so it's really an important public health work and arduous political task to protect the health of professional population in the near future. However, traditional occupational hazards being still serious, emerging new hazards, ever faster pace of life, increasing social competition, are all threatening the health of occupational groups. The pharmaceutical industry of China's rapid rise as a new economic power, during the vigorous development is also suffering serious occupational hazards. Health of the staff is increasingly becoming one of the core issues for enterprises' sustainable development.Workplace health promotion is a high-performance strategy considering comprehensive response to health hazards and protects life's health. Especially for the pharmaceutical industry, with its complex production process, a wide range of risk factors, the coexistence of a variety of hazards, the health problem of their employees need to be solved. The staffs of pharmaceutical industry, as a special occupational group producing medicine for human health, are with the exception of occupational hazards, but also from social, family and other factors. At present, there are scare researches in health promotion especially for pharmaceutical industry. This study draw at home and abroad research expecience, combined with the pharmaceutical industry's characteristics of the pharmaceutical industry, to carry out health promotion intervention and analyze the effect of interventions, in order to provide a basis for rapid development of health promotion work in the future.ObjectivesTo understand target enterprise's management of occupational health, occupational hazards, as well as health knowledge, their own health status, health needs and other aspects. To carry out workplace health promotion interventions in accordance with preceding sruvey, investigate and analyze the findings and results of the intervention, and then find a comprehensive intervention approach suitable for workplace health promotion in pharmaceutical industry, which can effectively deal with the occupational hazards, protect the health of employees, and promote efficient development of enterprises.MethodsUsing cluster sampling method, staffs were randomly selected to join the baseline survey. It showed high work pressure on the staff, so we carried out special investigation of occupational stress in order to make more rational and effective intervention strategies. We develop a comprehensive program of short-term intervention for a period of 5 months with the comprehensive results of the surveys. It included the preparation of brochures, filling record book of WHP activities and so forth. After the short-term intervention, we re-investigated and compared the findings of pre-and post-intervention, combining the content of record book and interviews, at last to summarize and analyse the intervention program.Results1. After workplace health promotion prevention, the enterprise formulated plan of preventing and curing occupational diseases and made significant improvement to harmful working condition.2. Staffs were with low cognitive rate on "Occupational Disease Prevention Law" and related knowledge; after intervention the rate has been markedly improved.3. After intervention staff awareness of occupational hazards have been significantly improved and they got more satisfaction with their working conditon. Employees' access to occupational health has become more active, instead of passive.4. Work pressure on the staff was worrying, with 38.4% of employees pressure high, and 36.8 percent of abnormal mental health.5. Staffs' awareness of general health knowledge was low, poor way of life were general; after intervention they all have improved.6. Staffs were in great need of occupational health services, health and safety knowledge, hoping to understand the occupational hazards in workplace, participated in occupational health examination.ConclusionsThrough short-term workplace health promotion intervention, the leaders of the enterprise have taken many rectifying and improving measures, such as focus on controlling occupational hazards, strengthening labor protection, communicating with staff and then improvd employees' satisfaction with the working conditions and work initiative. After taking part in the Workplace health promotion intervention, staffs knowledge of occupational health and general health has got a significant increase, occupational hazards in working environment have been reduced, staffs health and labor protection awareness has been significantly improved, gradually the lives of professional conduct and behavior have improved, and then in to some extent, the quality of professional life has been enhanced.
