Abstract/Summary:
With the development and application of digital technology,China’s manufacturing industry is facing transformation and upgrading. To realize transformation and upgrading, one of the important strategic choices for Chinese manufacturing enterprises is digital transformation. However, due to resource constraints, the process of digital transformation for small and medium manufacturing enterprises is difficult. Therefore, this thesis raises the following research questions:what are the factors that affect the digital transformation of small and medium manufacturing enterprises? through what mechanisms do these factors affect the digital transformation process of small and medium manufacturing enterprises? This thesis reviews relevant literature on the digital transformation of manufacturing enterprises.Firstly, the relevant theories on the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry are sorted out to lay a theoretical foundation for the digital transformation of customized manufacturing enterprises.Secondly, through the differentiation and analysis of terms such as " digitization "," digitalization" and "digital transformation",the connotation of digital transformation is elaborated. Finally,it combs relevant literature on the influencing factors, economic effects, and realizing routes of enterprise digital transformation. The existing literature mostly considers the impact of a single factor on digital transformation, while there are relatively few literature examining the synergistic effects of multiple factors on digital transformation, and there are few studies examining the digital transformation of small and medium enterprises. In response to the above shortcomings, this article uses the fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis(fs QCA)method based on the configuration perspective and TOE framework to analyze the driving factors of digital transformation in small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises.Based on the "Technology-Organization-Environment"(TOE)framework,this thesis constructs a driver model for the digital transformation of small and medium manufacturing enterprises from three levels: technology, organization, and environment. At the technical level, the influencing factors are digital infrastructure. At the organizational level, digital human capital and digital leadership. At the environmental level, digital ecological embeddedness and market competition intensity. On this basis,a questionnaire survey was conducted for small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises, using configuration analysis methods and fs QCA methods for analysis. The research results show that the degree of digital transformation of small and mediumsized manufacturing enterprises is not determined by a single factor, but is influenced by multiple factors such as digital infrastructure, digital human capital, digital leadership, digital ecological embeddedness, and market competition intensity. In the three configurations of high digital transformation, digital infrastructure and digital ecological embedding are the core conditions. The configurations for achieving digital transformation are diverse, and multiple configurations can lead to the results of high degree of digital transformation. Two types of configurations with high degree of digital transformation are constructed,namely,technology-organization driven and technology-environment driven.Based on the research results, this article proposes the following countermeasures and suggestions.First, focus on multi factor linkage driving, and choose a transformation strategy that conforms to their actual situation.Second, focus on the participation of external digital innovation ecosystems.Third, small and medium manufacturing enterprises attach importance to the construction and investment of digital infrastructure, while the government promotes the construction of industrial Internet platforms to help small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises alleviate resource constraints in the process of digital transformation.
