With the global spread of COVID-19 in 2020,protective clothing has become one of the most important urgently needed materials in the world.The protective clothing industry has also become the focus of attention worldwide.Protective clothing requires different protection level certification according to different use occasions.Low-end products offer protection against a light spray of liquid chemical and solid particle protection,mid-end products offer protection against strong and directional jets of liquid chemical,high-end products need to maintain internal positive pressure to provide protection against the invasion of toxic and corrosive gases.The development of industrial technology has also accelerated the reform of protective clothing industry,and the products are gradually changing to wearable and intelligent.The characteristics and changing trend of protective clothing will inevitably require the corresponding adjustment of the R & D process of new products of protective clothing.M company is a multinational company engaged in the design and manufacture of protective clothing.It is a global leader in body protection solutions.The new product R&D process of M company follows the existing stage gate management process of the group’s glove division.The different product systems and the application of unchanged R&D process make the actual R&D application and the existing R&D process incompatible.These differences lead to the low overall R&D performance of M company.Based on the existing new product R&D process of M company and the development trend of the whole protective clothing industry,this paper deeply investigates the problems existing in each stage of new product R&D of M company in actual operation,and focuses on the analysis of prominent problems such as lack of R & D process,unclear division of roles,mismatch of personnel structure and lack of risk control.With the help of stage gate management,absorbing the advantages of project management knowledge system and using the ideas and methods of business process optimization,this paper puts forward four targeted suggestions.Establish new product R&D process base on stage gate method,establish RACI responsibility matrix for the R&D process,establish a strong matrix project team,establish risk control mechanism base on risk analysis table.This research combines theory with practice,and runs the optimized project through each stage of new product R&D,and adopts gradual implementation in order to improve R&D performance and enhance M company’s market competitiveness.
