| The bricolage theory provides a way for new enterprises to break through the resource dilemma caused by newborn weakness and smallness,such as “making do with the resources that were not paid attention to” or “reorganizing the existing resources”.However,with the development and growth of Xiaomi ecological chain model,the phenomenon of new enterprises in Xiaomi ecological chain carrying out resource-focused action and realizing rapid development with the help of the institutional design of Xiaomi platform has attracted the attention of scholars gradually.Previous studies have shown that institutions will have an impact on organizational resource-focused action,but there is little exploration on the mechanism of institutional impact on resource-focused action.Therefore,it is of great significance to explore this issue.On this basis,this paper first combs the relevant theories according to the context of theoretical development systematically,and finds that the legitimacy recognition of stakeholders and the dynamic ability of enterprises are important prerequisites for enterprises to carry out resource-focused actions smoothly,while the institutional work theory plays an important guiding role in obtaining legitimacy and improving dynamic ability of organizations because it pays attention to the role of the initiative of actors in institutional design,This provides an important reference for us to form research ideas;Secondly,based on the theoretical combing,this paper puts forward the research problems and research framework.Then,this paper selects Xiaomi ecological chain enterprise — Zeep Health(ZH)as a typical case,and uses the method of vertical exploratory single case study to explore the impact mechanism of the institutional work of platform enterprises on ZH’s resource-focused action in the process of ZH’s development.The main conclusions of this study are as follows:(1)The institutional work of platform enterprises affects their resource-focused actions by affecting the legitimacy and dynamic capability of start-ups;(2)The resource-focused actions of start-ups have experienced the evolution of “resource bricolage → resource orchestration → network orchestration”.In this process,the dynamic capability of start-ups has experienced the transformation of “dynamic utilization capability → dynamic exploration capability →dynamic integration capability”,and the institutional work of platform enterprises has experienced the evolution of “institutional creation → institutional destruction and maintenance → institutional maintenance”.The research conclusion of this paper explains the two specific paths that the institutional work of platform enterprises affects the resource-focused actions of startups clearly,which helps to make up for the unclear theoretical limitations of the mechanism between the institutional work theory and the resource-focused action theory at the theoretical level;In addition,this paper studies the above two paths in stages,and discusses the strategies of new ventures to cross the legitimacy threshold in different stages and the evolution of their dynamic capabilities;Finally,from the perspective of resource-focused action,this study defines the relationship between resource bricolage、resource orchestration and network orchestration theory,which has a certain enlightenment to the related research of resource-focused action.At the practical level,the research conclusion provides a new idea for start-ups to allocate resources through institutional work to promote enterprises to create value,points out the importance of organizational legitimacy and dynamic capability to organizational development,which can be used for reference by relevant enterprises. |
