Abstract/Summary:
The deep integration of the media into the 14 th Five-Year Plan has driven the development of the media and has led to a diversified development trend. With the newest iterations of media convergence technology, digital content distribution has entered a new phase of innovation and development, and digital editors with new media technologies and a rich knowledge structure are in demand.Digital professionals have become the most active factor in the process of media convergence. What kind of professional qualities and competencies do digital editors need to possess? Can they produce high performance in their respective positions? With the booming development of the media industry, the talent evaluation methods of modern media companies need to adapt to the times.Based on this, this study combines competency theory with domestic digital editorial practice, establishes a theoretical model of digital editorial competency, develops a digital editorial competency assessment scale, analyses the current competency level of digital editors, and provides a new perspective and an effective tool for subsequent research on digital editorial talent.Based on the above research questions, the scale development process of this study is as follows: firstly, combining the current development situation of China’s media industry and the current situation of digital editors’ work, the typical characteristics of digital editors’ competency are extracted through literature analysis and recruitment information to find specific indicators that can be used as an evaluation of competency;secondly,20 digital editors with rich practical experience on the frontline are interviewed in depth through the behavioural event interview method to further identify Secondly,we interviewed 20 digital editors with rich experience in frontline practice through behavioural event interviews to further identify the elements of competency, and established a theoretical model of digital editorial competency by sorting out analogies and analysing them in a three-level coding approach rooted in theory. The initial scale was developed on the basis of qualitative research and included a total of 20 competency indicators in four dimensions. After the analysis of the data from the pre-survey,the structure of the scale was modified to 4 dimensions and 18 competency indicators and was tested again to ensure the validity of the content and structure of the scale. The final empirical analysis of digital editorial competency levels was conducted with reference to this scale, examining overall and dimensional competency levels, using gender, education, age, length of service and discipline as variables to compare levels of competency differences across demographic variables.Through the research process described above, the study ultimately reached the following conclusions: Firstly, the scale development process was followed to develop a digital editorial competency assessment scale containing four dimensions(professionalism, digital media literacy, professionalism and personality traits)and 18 competency indicators.Secondly,in the empirical study,it was found that digital editorial competency levels differed to varying degrees of significance across demographic variables.Thirdly, the scale was empirically tested and analysed to have good reliability, measurement performance and usefulness for further application in concrete practice.
