Nowadays,artificial intelligence and Internet of Things technology(AIo T)develop rapidly.Intelligent voice assistant,as an outstanding representative of AIo T technology and a typical representative of smart home products,has a wide range of applications and usability.Therefore,it becomes an accessible entrance to study man-machine communication in the emerging technology ecology.This study discusses how users use intelligent voice assistant media.Combined with the perspective of domestication theory,through in-depth interview and participatory observation,this study studies users’ experience of integrating intelligent voice assistant into daily life,and describes how users build an orderly life order in the process of domesticating intelligent voice assistant media.At the same time,it also discusses that in this process,the media itself is gradually domesticating users,and the reverse domestication mechanism is gradually emerging.This study shows that,in the pre-domestication stage,the most attractive thing for users is the humanized interaction of intelligent voice assistant and its hands-free convenience.Major brands and enterprises will promote online or offline.Users will watch videos on various platforms for promotion,or through the introduction of people around,and some users will experience in offline physical stores.There’s no question about the commoditized marketing strategy for smart voice assistants.In the formal domestication stage,users use intelligent voice assistants through various means.Some users buy through e-commerce and develop their imagination,while others directly domesticate without spending any money.In terms of objectification and integration,intelligent voice assistant is embedded into users’ daily life practice in both time and space dimensions.Intelligent voice assistant plays the role of intermediary to connect various scattered scenes in the family,and users use it repeatedly at fixed time nodes.In the process of embedding,intelligent voice assistant makes double connection from the three levels of technical goods,media text and space scene,which is not just the traditional transition from public domain to private domain.While users accede to intelligent voice assistant to build their own daily life order,intelligent voice assistant also affects users’ daily life in reverse.This study concludes that there are some reverse domestication phenomena in the interaction between users and intelligent voice assistants,such as technology dependence,self-exposure and transparency of daily life. |
