With the rapid development of the entertainment and culture industry, the fan base has gradually grown to form an industrial chain that is closely intertwined with culture, economy and politics, and the identity of fans has become a complex identity that crosses national boundaries and ethnicities as culture spreads globally."Korean Wave" has a large number of loyal fans in China, especially K-pop fans, due to its mature star-making model. The interactive process of fans interpreting, sharing, and discussing the practice of following stars in cyberspace has gradually transcended the realm of general entertainment and has become a discursive practice integrated into the daily lives of fans.Along with this interactive practice, there are issues of identity and a series of cultural phenomena that arise in the process of media use and consumption by K-pop fans.In the process of crosscultural celebrity following,Chinese K-Pop fans have both practiced localized textual interpretation of foreign cultures and maintained a high sensitivity to political positions.Recent political and cultural developments have complicated domestic K-Pop consumption, and Chinese K-Pop fans Chinese K-Pop fans face many dilemmas in the process of transnational star-following:on the one hand, the rise of anti-Korean Wave movements in Chinese cyberspace, nationalist stigmatization of Chinese K-Pop fan identity, and cultural controversies between the two countries hinder fan star-following activities, and on the other hand, imitation K-Pop forms of Chinese idol groups are growing rapidly, providing more culturally accessible and politically safe options for young Chinese people’s fascination with idol culture, but surprisingly these challenges for K-Pop in China have not reduced its fan base in China. With this as a backdrop, this paper focuses on the following questions:What is KPop’s continued appeal to some Chinese fans against a historical backdrop of multiple forces impeding its spread? Why do these consumers of idol culture persist in choosing Kpop despite the availability of more convenient localized options, and how do K-pop fans cope with the incompatibility of fan identity and Chinese national identity to accomplish a balance between the two identities?Using participant observation and in-depth interviews, this paper selects domestic Kpop fans as the specific research object and conducts a comprehensive and detailed investigation of individual behavior and discourse, group interaction, and group psychology of the fans. From the results of the study,we further explore how to let the public know more deeply about K-Pop fans as a group from the perspective of the psychology and behavior of K-Pop fan groups,so that the community can face up to the positive energy of fans in the field of cross-cultural communication, and explore the unique advantages of the fan circle in enhancing the national cohesion of young people and spreading Chinese culture.
