Abstract/Summary:
In recent years, the youth group’s awareness of “freedom” and “individuality” has gradually increased, with major online video platforms targeting the individual needs of youth audiences, segmenting the variety market and launching subcultural variety shows. From the taste of “China’s Hip Hop”,to the pioneering of “The New Generation of Rap”,to the construction of the “This! is Street Dance”IP building, the circle variety show has provided a powerful means for youth groups to express themselves, reaping traffic and word of mouth. This study takes The New Generation of Rap and the This! This is the Street Dance series as the research objects, and analyses the programes from the perspective of youth subculture in the context of the dissemination of Chinese variety arts content. The study focuses on three perspectives: the development of the genre, the characteristics of the youth subculture in the genre, and the dissemination strategies of the youth subculture in the genre. The study argues that the main content of the genre is a subcultural category, which brings together subcultural communities in a variety art community. However, the development of youth subcultures as the parent of the genre has gradually led to a narrowing of the content, depletion of cultural resources and the over-entertainment of positive subcultural values. Therefore, this study takes youth subculture theory as the starting point, and takes a number of popular variety shows in China in recent years as the object of study,to explore the new cultural expressions that have emerged from the combination of youth subculture and online variety shows,in the hope that it can provide a reference for the development of future variety shows.
