Since the 21st century,the progress of information technology has made the global knowledge network rise rapidly.At the same time,technological innovation has increasingly become a key factor in international competition,and the external network is playing an increasingly significant role in the process of technological innovation.Economic entities begin to make extensive use of external information network to achieve technological innovation.Therefore,a global open innovation network,the Global Innovation Network,came into being.The GIN has broken the traditional closed innovation situation,injected new vitality into manufacturing technology innovation,and become an important driving force to improve the efficiency of manufacturing innovation.This thesis takes the semiconductor industry of OECD countries during 2001-2020 as an example to analyze the theoretical mechanism and influence effect of a country’s manufacturing industry embedding into the GIN on manufacturing innovation efficiency.The research findings are as follows:(1)In terms of theoretical mechanism,embedding in the semiconductor industry GIN will accelerate the accumulation and optimal allocation of innovation resources,promote technology diffusion,improve the effectiveness of innovation,and thus realize the improvement of the innovation efficiency of network subjects.In terms of market competition,embedding in the GIN of semiconductor industry will intensify industry competition and have an inverted U-shaped impact on innovation efficiency.In terms of external environment,network embedding will promote the improvement of innovation efficiency of semiconductor industry by influencing related industries and institutional environment.(2)In terms of the measurement of GIN embedment,the results of the index synthesis method to measure the embedment degree of GIN show that the embedment degree of semiconductor industry in OECD countries is quite different.From 2001 to 2020,the embedding degree of each country changed little,but in 2008,the embedding degree of each country’s semiconductor industry GIN showed a sharp decline.(3)In terms of the measurement of innovation efficiency in the semiconductor industry,the DEA-Malmquist model is adopted to measure the innovation efficiency.The results show that there are obvious differences in the innovation efficiency of the semiconductor industry among different countries,with Japan,South Korea,Germany and the United Kingdom in the forefront.The innovation efficiency of semiconductor industry in OECD countries showed a slight increase from 2001 to 2020,but declined after the global financial crisis in 2008.(4)In terms of the impact of GIN embedding on manufacturing innovation efficiency,a country’s semiconductor industry embedding in GIN has a significant positive impact on its innovation efficiency.The heterogeneity test based on geographic grouping,income grouping and opening level grouping shows that the GIN embedding in the semiconductor industry of Eastern European and Central Asian countries has a significant positive impact on the innovation efficiency of the industry.Compared with the countries with medium and low level of openness,the GIN embedding of semiconductor industry in the countries with high level of openness has the largest positive impact on innovation efficiency.There is no significant income heterogeneity in the influence of GIN embedding on innovation efficiency.
