In the era of visual supremacy,film and television communication is an important way of literary dissemination,A Dream of Red Mansions(1987)is a mass cultural product made by government and scholars,but now it attracts a lot of young fans on Bilibili which is known as the youth cultural community.The beautiful cultural landscape is worth studying.This study belongs to the audience study of Communication Studies,using some methods such as network ethnography,questionnaire,semi-structured interviews,content analysis to study“ the text production and identity of the fan group of A Dream of Red Mansions(1987)on Bilibili ”,and using fan theory,spectacle/performance paradigm,postmodern cultural theory for in-depth analysis.This study draws some conclusions.Firstly,the development of media technology has promoted the creation of TV fan groups,the fan group is mainly composed by young students under the age of 25,most of them are women,and their fans’ characters are obvious.Secondly,their methods of text production are mainly nomadic interpretation and poaching,and participatory performance,which is driven by the love for the original text,and the desire of self-performance,recognition and accompany.Thirdly,text production is an important way to construct identity for fans,both as a way of expressing themselves and as a source of collective identity.Fans construct self-identity through subcultural capital,self-projection,communication and interaction with others,and they construct collective identity through sharing common symbols,abiding by collective rules,and defending original texts.In terms of value reflection,this article believes that the fan group’s media activities have a certain enlightenment significance for the innovative dissemination of this literary classic and traditional culture,but there are also many problems such as hunting for novelty and entertainment,overconsumption and dispelling of this literary classic.
