Body appreciation is an important aspect of positive body image,which includes both positive emotions and attitudes toward respect and identification with the body,as well as correct perceptions and behaviors,which reject the best appearance as the only form of beauty promoted by the media.Most body appreciation research subjects come from foreign samples,while research on body appreciation in China,especially focusing on teenagers rather than college students,is still in its infancy.Based on Positive Adolescent and Child Development Theory,Conservation of Resources Theory,Ternary Reciprocal Determinism Theory and Protective-Protective Model,1326(1233 valid questionnaire)domestic adolescents were studied and the research tools used were Parental Autonomy Support Scale,Psychological Capital Questionnaire,Personal Growth Initiative Scale and Body Appreciation Scale to create a moderate mediation model,explore the mediating role of psychological capital between parental autonomy support and body appreciation,and whether this mediation mechanism is regulated by personal growth initiative.The results of the study show that:1.There are significant differences in the body appreciation of adolescents in terms of sex,monthly income of the family,father’s level of education,mother’s level of education and age,but the differences are not significant in terms of the only child and origin of birth;There are significant differences in parental autonomy support in terms of origin of birth,monthly income of the family and father’s level of education,but there are no significant differences in terms of sex,the only child,mother’s level of education and age;There are significant differences in psychological capital in terms of sex,monthly income of the family,father’s level of education and mother’s level of education,but there are no significant differences in the only child,origin of birth and age;In terms of personal growth initiative,there are significant differences in the origin of birth,father’s level of education,mother’s level of education and age,but there are no significant differences in the family monthly income,the only child and sex.2.There is a significant positive link between parental autonomy support,psychological capital and body appreciation.3.After controlling for gender,age,origin of birth,monthly family income,father’s level of education and mother’s level of education,parental autonomy support still have a positive predictive effect on body appreciation as well as psychological capital;psychological capital can also significantly positively predict body appreciation.4.Psychological capital plays a partial mediating role between parental autonomy support and body appreciation.5.Personal growth initiative significantly moderates the relationship between parental autonomy support and psychological capital.6.The first half of the mediating effect of parental autonomy support,which affects body appreciation through psychological capital,is moderated by personal growth initiative.This study explores the predictive role of parental autonomy support on adolescents’ body appreciation from a positive psychology perspective and the mediated moderating role of psychological capital and personal growth initiative in the relationship between the two.First,this study verified that parental autonomy support is an important protective factor for adolescent body appreciation.Second,this study found that psychological capital and personal growth initiative are important processes and conditions,respectively,for parental autonomy support to influence adolescents’ body appreciation.Therefore,this study suggested that first,parents should pay attention to the construction of positive body image for adolescents and create an autonomy support family atmosphere from multiple perspectives;second,building hope,motivating optimism,enhancing self-confidence and strengthening resilience should be combined to enhance individual psychological capital;and third,"embodied cognition" education and "body comparison" guidance should be combined to train individuals’ active growth through home-school cooperation. |
