A Study On The Media Memory Of Paper Magazines By The "Post-90s"

Digital technology has led to changes in mainstream media,and the development of paper media has fallen into a dilemma.In recent years,the "suspension tide" in the paper media industry has repeatedly triggered the "memory tide" in online platforms,becoming a social phenomenon worthy of attention.Among them,people’s memory of paper magazines has also become an important part of the memory of paper media.Due to its diverse and entertaining content,paper magazines bring readers unique emotional experiences that are closely linked to their lives and life experiences.The "post-90s",as the backbone of this memory writing,demonstrate the particularity of their highly mediated memory.Therefore,this article selects the "post-90s" group as the research object to explore their current media memory of paper magazines,and then selects COMIC GUESTS as the representative object of memory to deeply study the formation mechanism and cultural value behind it.This article analyzes the media memory of COMIC GUESTS by "post-90s" readers in accordance with the four dimensions of "the content of memory","how memory unfolds","why memory forms",and "the practical value of memory".Using a combination of text analysis and in-depth interviews,it analyzes 183 memory texts related to COMIC GUESTS on the Zhihu platform,depicting the memory profile of "post-90s" readers on COMIC GUESTS,An in-depth interview was conducted with 23 "post-90s" readers of COMIC GUESTS who had maintained their reading behavior for more than one year,supplemented by online texts and secondary reviews to comprehensively explore the profound connotation behind their memories.The research found that the media memory practice of "Post-90s" readers on COMIC GUESTS is divided into discourse practice and embodied practice.At the discourse practice level,the number of memorized texts of "post-90s" readers is on the rise,with "comics" as a centripetal emanating memory.They demonstrate that the production and awakening of their media memory is a symbolic process through the five major memory content aspects of comics,media,space,time,and social relations;While they use comics to connect memories,shape "our" community,and carry out selective memory,the changing "memory field" has also become an important topic of narrative.At the level of physical memory,repeated reading,collecting archaeology,continuous purchasing,discussing and correcting errors,and establishing biographies have become the main ways to recall things in the online era.In the "Memory Landscape" section,the study found that the historical review of COMIC GUESTS by "post-90s" readers reflects the common characteristics of the development dilemma of paper magazines.They associate COMIC GUESTS with "youth" based on the "ACG" youth subculture and paper media sentiment it carries.COMIC GUESTS plays a role in obtaining "emotional support","social currency",and integrating into "interest group" in memory,Synchronize with the youth process of the "post-90s" generation.Exploring the "cause of memory",the memories of "post-90s" readers reflect the characteristics of "reflective nostalgia".Through nostalgia for the youth of reading COMIC GUESTS,readers can relieve the pressure and loneliness of real life and rebuild their self-identity.They connect with each other through network algorithms,form emotional consensus through shared experiences,and strengthen group identity through generational separation.Behind the identity,their dispute over the concept of "youth" also reflects the struggle within the memory group.At the "memory value" level,research suggests that the media memory of paper magazines by the "post-90s" first reflects the mutual construction process of media and memory in the digital era.Media is both the object of memory and the carrier of memory.Past life has been beautified into a "heterotopia" that carries spiritual sustenance,reflecting the readers’ reconstruction process of memory.Secondly,their nostalgic memories of media not only express their adherence to and inheritance of the spirit of paper media in the digital era,but also reflect an optimistic attitude towards the future.The media memory of the "post-90s" readers of COMIC GUESTS reflects the "material" characteristics of media.This article,through a "bottom-up" memory review,helps to trace the history of communication between youth groups and paper media,enrich the content orientation of memory research,reexamine the development of paper magazines with a current perspective,and reflect on the cultural value of media modernization.
