The international communication of China’s Tibet-related regions is one of the key tasks of China’s international communication since the reform and opening up.Fully understanding the decoding paths of international audiences for foreign cultures in the age of social media is a key breakthrough in the international communication of China’s Tibet-related regions and even China.Therefore,based on the coding analysis of Tibet-related short videos on TikTok platform,this study further investigates the decoding mode and meaning construction of international audiences,summarizes the influencing factors of international audiences’ decoding,and considers the improvement path of international communication of Tibet-related regions in China.It is found that in the process of information construction,short video coders of Tibet-related topics on TikTok platform in China mainly divide the narrative topics of the videos into natural and humanistic categories,daily life categories and science reports,three types of initial patterns,focus on the applicability of shot combination and scene use in narrative shots,and carry out different focus of observation and narration through narrative perspectives.In the process of codification,the coders use linguistic symbols to grasp the definition and interpretation of coded symbols and present a more vivid and intuitive narrative through non-verbal symbols.In the study of international audiences’ decoding,this study summarizes six decoding types of international audiences’ cross-cultural decoding of China’s Tibet-related short videos on TikTok platform under the three positions of dominance-hegemony,compromise and negotiation,and confrontation,which are approval,empathy,reflection,identification,questioning,and criticism decoding.In terms of surface decoding,the accompanying text lays the interpretation foundation and deepens the meaning point for international audiences to decode cross-culturally,and the original text code becomes the main "business card" for international audiences to identify Tibet-related short videos.In terms of deeper decoding,international audiences believe that people in Tibet-related areas in China have rich connotations of "human nature",hold a natural view of the unity of man and nature in terms of the relationship between man and nature,and have a "tradition-oriented" and In terms of time orientation,there is a conflict between "tradition" and "stubbornness",and in terms of human activity orientation,the activity itself is identified as "happiness vs.hardship".Further analysis was conducted to consider the factors influencing the international audience decoding of short videos on Tibetan-related topics on TikTok platform and the enhancement path of international communication.It is found that four factors,national awareness,cultural empathy,stereotypes and cultural proximity,have an impact on the cross-cultural decoding of international audiences.Based on this,the coders of Tibet-related short videos on the TikTok platform in China can promote the improvement of the international communication effect of Tibet-related regions in four ways: building a space for sharing human meanings by using common emotions,injecting modernization symbols for conceptual renewal,anchoring the balance between information increment and entertainment attributes,and promoting traditional media for international communication practices. |
