Mobile Ad Hoc Network(MANET)is a dynamic ad hoc network composed of wireless mobile nodes with arbitrary and temporary network topology, each node can be used as a host and a router at the same time.MANET can quickly set up a communication network at any place and at any time, and has a wide range of applications in emergency communication and disaster rescue.Routing protocols have always been the hotspot and difficulty in the research of MANET.At present, according to the different ways of routing query, the routing protocals of MANET are mainly divided into three categories: active routing protocols, reactive routing protocols and hybrid routing protocols. For different application scenarios, routing protocols should be designed in a targeted manner. In order to adapt to large-scale MANET,first of all,a virtual hierarchical hybrid routing(VHHR)protocol architecture is proposed, which takes each node in the network as the center and two hops as the radius to divide the network area.Intra-zone routes are table-driven while inter-zone routes are on-demand.Besides,a routing metric based on link quality, node load and actual hop count is designed, which enhances the reliability of routing and improves the overall performance of routing protocols.Additionally,an intra-zone active routing method is designed based on the MAC mechanism without conflict within two hops. The local two-hop neighbors’ information is obtained by means of periodic broadcast frames of the MAC layer, and the routes to all two-hop neighbors are constructed without maintaining the entire network topology, reducing the overhead of active routing overhead. Also,an inter-zone reactive routing method is designed based on AODV,and accept the guidance of intra-zone active routing using the cross-layer design technology to reduce the endto-end delay of route discovery. In the end,Riverved Modeler simulation platform is used to implement the VHHR protocol, which proves that comparing with AODV and OLSR,VHHR shows more stable network throughput and lower average end-to-end delay in any small and medium network topology environment where nodes in network are stationary or move at low to medium speeds, and in large-scale MANET.
