| In the era of global interconnection,the establishment of a harmonious and friendly global village has been put on the agenda.Faced with the estrangement and misunderstanding existing in the process of cross-cultural communication among people of various countries,it is necessary to take effective measures to reduce the phenomenon of cultural misreading and strive for the greatest degree of effective cultural communication.At present,the topic of telling Chinese stories well has a variety of speechers,including Chinese mainstream media,government accounts of social media,personal self-media accounts,etc.At the same time,some media people who have lived in China for a long time have also participated in the process of telling Chinese stories.For example,Stuart,the research object of this paper.As a student of Oxford University,Stuart has many years of experience as a host and is familiar with the discourse framework of Chinese media and Western media.As a translator who understands both Chinese and Western culture,he can spread Chinese stories in a way suitable for Western audiences,which will help us to boost the influence of Chinese stories.This paper will take the short video account "The China Traveller" opened by Stuart on the YouTube platform as the research object.With the help of content analysis method,text analysis method and case analysis method,this thesis analyzes the way which foreign-speakers have adopted in telling Chinese stories,the similarities and differences of telling Chinese-stories between Chinese media and western media,the communication effects of overseas stories-speaker and the enlightenment the other’s narrative strategy has brought to the Chinese media in telling Chinese stories on the YouTube platform.Firstly,this paper sorts out and reviews the literature on telling Chinese stories in the introduction part,and finds that the narrators of Chinese stories can be divided into others and us.At present,the research on telling Chinese stories from the perspective of me and the other is in the body.There is a large deviation in the quantity,and there is insufficient research on the communication effect of others telling Chinese stories on new media platforms.In addition,the introduction part systematically summarizes the historical research literature on semiotics and cross-cultural communication.This article will analyze the research objects with the help of semiotics and cross-cultural communication theory.Besides,this paper analyzes the narrative symbols and communication effect analysis of the line text and user English feedback of The China Traveller short video.After screening 50 Chinese story video samples,6 different first-level themes were divided.This paper use the People’s Daily Corpus Analysis Library Micro Word Cloud Platform to analyze the subtitle content and user comments of the sample videos by word frequency analysis and semantic sentiment analysis,analyze discourse narrative strategy adopted by Stuart as the"other" who told Chinese stories,and carry out the data capture of the views,likes and comments of short videos with the help of octopus data crawling software.Relying on the theory of malleability,the paper conduct in-depth analysis of the effect of video dissemination,and refine the Chinese story themes that are of interest to overseas audiences and the Chinese issues they care about.After the above analysis,this paper found that the collective memory intersection of Chinese and Western audiences is expanding.Although there are inevitably cultural misunderstandings between Chinese and Western audiences in the process of cross-cultural communication,there are also fundamental differences in the communication modes between high-context and low-context cultures,with the continuous advancement of the globalization process,the exchanges and interactions between ourselves and others in the economic and cultural fields are becoming more frequent.The audience has a high degree of attention to topics such as Chinese food,poverty alleviation and social hot events.However,the western and Chinese users can not establish in-depth cultural communication and users’ enthusiasm for discussion and participation of the topics that represent traditional Chinese culture and political models is significantly lower.Therefore,this article thinks that we need to learn from the useful experience of others in telling Chinese stories,focus on micro-topics,start from small story incisions,and tap into each other’s empathy spacewhen telling Chinese stories to the outside world.At the same time,we should pay more attention to vulnerable groups,show China’s temperature,demonstrate the people-oriented development concept,and gradually improve the effect of cross-cultural communication in our country. |
